We booked a room at CS for access to Atlantis in September 2013 and again this past Thanksgiving. The process was the same both times, but the cost was higher and the crowds bigger over Thanksgiving. We would definitely go this route again, but would probably avoid it at peak times. There is detailed information about the process in my Sept 2013 Dream trip report.
ETA: The people checking in at the Aquaventure desk in front of us in November had booked at CS but had a 5th person in their group and were trying to buy a day pass on the spot. They were told that they weren't being sold because of the occupancy level! After arguing back and forth for a few minutes they moved off to the side to talk. Not sure what they ended up doing!
