Besides DIS boards, which are awesome...are there any books you would recommend for planning purposes?

I was looking at the Unofficial Guide in particular, but was thinking of some others too. There are so many to choose from:confused3..any advice is appreciated.

THANKS!!:)

I like Passporter. It is very informative about everything from restaurants to details about the rides. And its also great for an organizational tool, as it has pockets you can use to store stuff, places to write your ADR numbers, etc.

Birnham books are Disney’s official book and are good for getting excited about a trip.
The Passporter is an organizational tool.
The Unofficial Guide is a research and learning guide and a damn fine planning guide.
The rest aren't even worth mentioning.

IMO, nothing—NOTHING—beats the UG. I've used them all at some point.

I really like the Unofficial Guide t Walt Disney World! It has ALOT of resourses and breaks downt he rides/attractions for various age groups. Also it gives you full access to touringplans.com which I really like.

I really like the unofficial guide but I have one suggestion... borrow it from the library! I made a ton of notes and even used it to access the crowd calendar on the website because I had the book in front of me and had the info it needed to allow me access.

If you REALLY feel like you need it after viewing it for free you can then buy it. I would check ebay and if you are a AAA member, I think they sell it at a slight discount as well.

Good luck and happy planning! :)

Another vote for the Unofficial Guide. The DIS is the best website but the Guides site is touringplans.com

I don't have a reccomondation so much as a thumbs down vote for a particular book.

I bought the "2009 Birnbaum official guide" last December. I was happy with it at first. But then after joining this group, I've changed my opinion of that book. Since I have learned that various topics in the book were long outdated. (like the 90 vs 180 ADR) The book said 180, but the 90 days ADR policy was referenced here in the summer of 2008. Six months before I bought that book.

I also recommend the UG and also the Passporter Deluxe. It is in 5-ring binder that you can use as your planner also. I have taken some of the info and misc. pages out and added some planning info, ADR info, maps, driving directions etc. and I will be taking this with me to WDW!

For our last trip I used Passporter to organize and plan, but I got practically every other Disney Guide from the library. I would read through them, take notes or photocopy good ideas/suggestions, and then return them. Most books had at least one good idea/tip that the others didn't have, but definitely not worth spending actual money on.
