So in my English class we are starting a new unit on Contemporary Fiction. We have to choose a book from the NY Times Best Sellers or LA Times Best Sellers list. I'm open to read anything except science-fiction. It just isn't me.

Suggestions please! :thumbsup2

Well, I heard Running With Scissors is a good book...but you have to be age appropriate, heh...so I've heard.

Mitch Albom is an awesome author...although I've never read it, For One More Day might be a book you want to look into.

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower.

I just finished it.

Isn't that more pre-teen aged? :confused3 I don't know, I've never read it but I know most of the kids in my class were reading it around 8th grade. I think the OP's teacher would want them to read a book of a more advanced level...that is, of course, if the book you mentioned is as I think it is. Again, I don't know heh.

It has some really really questionable material. Geared towards teens, and older teens. Its got a lot of drugs and sex in it. Not really for a pre teen, in my opinion. Anyone can enjoy it, but I thought maybe 15-18 age range.

Oh, okay.

I have to suggest A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers... caution - a few of my friends didn't like it, but I loved it.. it was just so far off from anything I've read before.. you have to have an open mind and a really good sense of humor.. there is some very un-P.C. things in it.. and some rather mature content, but it is worth reading.

I've heard Running With Scissors is good from a lot of people in my class... I wouldn't mind reading it - but I won't have time to this school year.
