We are Castaway Club members and will be going on the Wonder on March 7th.

My twin DDs (16) want to do the parasailing for 2 (together) at CC.

When am I able to book this?

And as a side question....if one chickens out, can DH take her place?

Thanks,
DJ

I can help with the second part of the question. I booked parasailing at CC for my DH and DD. My DH decided at the last minute he did not want to go and I went. No questions asked.

Yea, the boat operators just take the ticket. If both girls go, and you want too, you can negotiate a price with the boats guys and they'll give you a ride too (bring cash though). This happened on our visit to CC.

Just be aware that your DD's may not be able to parasail together. ;)

Children have to be accompanied by an adult, but since your DD's will be 16, they may be asked to go separately.

Oh, on the website it sounded like an adult had come along with them, but it didn't sound like they had to go up with them.

When we cruised in March, my two nieces went parasailing tandem. They were 15 and 17 at the time and there was no issue. On the same trip, there was a mother and 17-year old daughter that also went tandem. The weight limit for the harness and parachute is something like 350 lbs.

That is good to hear about your nieces. I know my girls really want to do this together. It wouldn't be the same if they couldn't. It will be one of those "twin" shared experiences. :)

I booked my parasailing online when I booked other excusions at 90 days out and paid in full.

Children will not be allowed to go up alone. We were told that we couldn't even bring DD with us on the boat because she wasn't old enough to parasail. ;)

Although the weight limit is quite generous, there are other factors to be considered like the wind speed, etc. The tour operator has the final say though and you will not find out until you're at CC if it will be possible or not.

FWIW, we went parasailing again this year in Europe, DD7 came up with me, DH went alone. Our friend's teenage boys went up tandem. :thumbsup2

Here's hoping your DD's can parasail together - fingers crossed! :hippie:

Ds and I did this together, tandem, in 2007. In our group, there were a few couples that went up together so unless things have changed recently, as long as they don't exceed the weight limit they would be fine.

But my girls will be 16! Old enough to drive. I can understand not letting little kids go up without an adult, but teenagers? I will ask and see. But I don't want to pay for 4 trips up! So I hope they will let the two of them go together.

Being old enough to drive has nothing to do with it. Just as there is a maximum weight limit there is also a minimum weight limit. So the guys operating the excursion will have to consider how big they are as well as the other pax on the trip. There is a possibility they could be split up in order to pair everyone up to the best weight limit they can. :rotfl: My DS is 12 and only weighs about 66 or 67 Lbs soaking wet. (I mean TECHNICALLY he should still be in a booster seat in the car.) There's no way even when he's 16 that he's going to weigh more than 80 or 90 Lbs. Which is NOT enough to go up alone.

on our trip start of oct. a couple went up tandem and BFF and I were asked how we were going, lets just say if we had gone tandem we would have been close to 350 lbs limit. I'd say your teens have good chance of going up tandem if weather is on their side.

My teenage sons were so excited to do the parasailing. Please plant the idea before you leave, that we may not get to do it because of the weather conditions. We cruise in January and signed up to parasail 4 years in a row and it was canceled every time because of weather. You won't know until CC day. We explained that's why we were going to let them do it at CC. We felt Disney would not have operators who would go up anyways (in spite of bad weather).

We finally decided to sign up for the para sailing at WDW at the Contemporary resort. ALL of us loved it. (My husband and I, both in our 50's, did it too....thinking "kicks keep getting harder to find." And as we get older they need to be FAIRLY SAFE Kicks!)

While talking with the boat crew, we mentioned we'd tried to do this at CC several times and it always got cancelled because of the wind conditions. They said they were not surprised to hear that. At the Contemporary, they actually work for Sammy Duvall water Enterprises, contracted by DISNEY. They said DISNEY requires more safety policies then any other company does. And that the Coast Guard regularly trains with the DISNEY group and checks to see what safety changes DISNEY has added! This was after we've flown with them so I don't think it was a sell job just to get us to pay the money.

Granted we didn't have a comparison but we also thought it might have been a better sightseeing ride in the air to do it at WDW. After the first thrill of I'm up here....then we looked around and saw the parks from a really different view. If we were going over the ocean and CC the view would be water and beach and land.

I hope everyone enjoys their flight!!!!

Barb,
I like this idea of doing it at the Contemporary. That is where we are staying when we get off the ship and we aren't planning to go to the parks that day, so it would be perfect to do it there instead of CC.

How do we book this? Is there a webpage with info?

That way they don't lose time at CC hanging out with the teens (and we can head over to the adult beach), and they can still give this a try. I LOVE this idea!

This would work out so much better for us! Thanks for the idea! Now I just need to know how to book it. :)

Hi!
I really think you'll like doing the parasailing at the Contemporary...especially if that's where you're heading after the cruise anyways. You can find more information on pre booking it on the DISNEY.com site--then search Contemporary resort- then the category Recreation. Below is some of the information they have.

Glad I could help and have FUN!

Thanks! The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of doing it the day we get off the ship and check in the Contemporary since we are not doing parks that day. I hate to use up our relaxing time at CC waiting for the girls to do this. I told them about doing it at WDW and they thought that sounded good too (especially being able to see the parks from the air).

Thanks for the number, I will call and see about booking that!
