So I have never booked with a TA before and wanna give it a try this time around. Yesterday I filled out a form online to receive a quote and received an automated response. This morning I woke up to an email from my TA basically saying that she is going to look for a price and get back to us. I wrote back asking if we could pay with with gift cards. I received an automated response saying she was off until Monday.

Here is my question for you guys:
1) We found a guaranteed 8a room and want to book it ASAP. Since our TA is off for the weekend, can we book this category directly with DCL and then transfer it to DU? Do we loose out on the ob and the gift they leave in the room?

thank you for any advice!

You can book it through Disney and move it. Since that reduces the travel agent's commission, you will get a smaller on board credit than if she booked it directly. I do not know anything about the gift, other than they can't send it to the ship anymore and some people get them at their homes.

You could try booking with a different
DU TA. They are not all off on weekends.

I can answer your gift card question for you, yes you can use them to pay for your cruise. Also, gifts are not left in the room. Dreams Unlimited will send Gift Baskets to guests(in the US) in advance of their cruise. Having a transferred cruise does not affect that.

As for you agent, while not always, sometimes when agents are "off" they will still monitor email when they can and address any time sensitive issues so you may get lucky and hear from her yet. Good luck!

We had two rooms booked thru DU last November and we never received anything. Hopefully, we will receive something in advance of Feb 2017 cruise. Didn't get a door magnet from DVC either. Boo hoo !

One of the first dreams podcasts this year announced that starting this year all clients in the USA will get the gift baskets. Not just those leaving from Port Canaveral. They wanted to be doing that by April or later I thought. I was bummed because we left out of Miami in February but then a box arrived a few weeks before our trip so YaY

and the gift they leave in the room?

Or were you referring to the gift left in the room by Disney? In which case even if you transfer to DU, Disney still leaves the gift on your bed upon arrival. Have a Great cruise!:sail:

So we wanted to book a placeholder for two rooms on a future cruise when we were on our first cruise last November. I wanted to do one in my name and one in our daughters name since she and her husband would most likely be the ones cruising with us. The CM said no, put one in your name and one in your husbands name and then it won't matter who goes with you. Disney Transferred the Reservations to DU right then. When we went to book a cruise with our placeholders(with my daughter and her husband) we had to put myself and daughter in one room and husband and son in law in the other or lose the 10% discount from disney. We plan to just switch things around after the lifeboat drill but of course daughter and husband's key cards will now not work on the room they are staying in and can't just switch keys cause need them for boarding at port etc. Is there a better way to do the OBB booking if you know you want 2 rooms but don't know exactly( which of our children and family)who will be cruising with you.

If you don't know who will be cruising in the 2nd stateroom, then no there is no better way to do it other than splitting the names of you/DH or whomever is definitely cruising. The lead name on an OBB must remain or the reservation loses it's OBB perks.

As for the room keys -- just stop by Guest Services and get an extra room key for each room. It's done all the time, no problem. It can be done before or after the muster drill since you won't actually be swapping rooms in the system, just getting an extra key card. Have each adult put down his/her own credit card for online check-in and the onboard charges should work out fine.

Enjoy your cruise!

You can probably swap rooms officially in the system and you will have the right key cards. You might even be able to do this before you board at the managers desk. (The far right of the terminal at port canaveral (if you are cruising from there.) Otherwise it will need to be after the lifeboat drill. We've done this for one person 4 times. We book my husband in my mothers room to start the trip since she is a single and we are a triple. We just pay her what our triple would cost.

Thanks for the advice. I didn't know we could get an additional key for each room. That will solve the problem.
