Book now or wait?

Hello,

I'm looking at a summer 2020 trip and was curious if I should book now, or should I wait to see if discounted rates are released in January (that looks to be when they are released according to MouseSavers)

If I book now, is it a hassle to switch to the discount rate? I don't really want to have to cancel the reservation, get a refund and rebook.

Any tips?

Thank you

It's quite easy to switch (if the discount is available). You can do it through MDE, and change the offer category. If you see the offer available online, you can also call to have it applied. If the MDE gives you a hard time, like it has for us once, calling can be bit easier since they can override some things and see other availability that you cannot online.

If you will go regardless of whether or not you get a discount, I'd book now to make sure you get the resort/room type you want. If you will only go with a discount, I'd wait to see what (if any) discounts come out for your dates. If you book now and a discount comes out later that applies to your dates/resort/room type, your existing reservation can be modified to reflect the discount. With that said, since not all resorts/room types are included in discounts, sometimes you have to be flexible with your resort and/or room type as having a reservation already in place does not guarantee a discount can be applied.

Are you looking at any competitive dining reservations? If so, you'll want something on record so get your 180+length of stay ADR window. Offers often drop with less than 180 days notice (fall discounts for instance dropped in July) so, if you wait, then you'd be at a disadvantage booking ADRs.

If you have your heart set on a particular resort or room type ( i.e. - club level or savannah view ) then I would book now. If there is an offer at that resort/room type it's not hard to convert.

I'm terrible at waiting, so book now if you know what you want, prices will only go up (outside of discounts)! :) You never know when a ticket increase may come...

This! And you may find when discounts come out, that your early booked reservation is a better deal than the discount due to prices going up after you book.

We booked already for our July 2020 trip. This way we have the resorts we want (doing a split stay) and then able to do dining reservations 180 days out. (We're not doing many dining reservations, but want to be able to get the places we want.) This summer I actually had trouble finding rooms available for the days we usually like to check in. I needed to search for a few days before something opened up and had to make a slight adjustment on our arrival date by a day. Also, since we're doing a split day we booked Poly as package with tickets and YC with room only. Poly's room discount usually not so good as the other resorts, so figured might as well save money on park tickets b/c they always increase in the spring and if a room discount comes out we can apply to our YC stay which is actually more nights.
