Book now or wait for discount?

I'll be traveling in the beginning of May. I'm hoping there will be some sort of discount then. Should I wait a bit for discounts to be released (I know it's too early now) or book now. The problem is I'm not 100% sure what resort I want. If I book and then a discount comes out how do I get it applied?

You can book a placeholder and for a Package only need to put down $200 or a Room Only (RO) and 1 nights deposit. Applying a discount may vary in the actual process based on what resort you picked.

You might get a discount applied or you may need to book a new discounted stay and then cancel you original stay. As a reminder the more guests that book placeholders may lead Disney to think that they don't need to offer discounts.

Somewhat like playing the Lottery.

You can only get the discount if a new room is available at the discount rate. That means don’t book anything you aren’t willing to pay rack rate for because by booking it you take it out of the inventory for potential discounts.

I’d book a rack rate I was ok with just to lock a room down and then check back in once discounts are released.

This! 👍

If you're picky about where you stay, book now. If you're willing to wait to see what's discounted, wait for the discounts.

My BIL always books the room. When the discounts show up he calls and always gets the discounted price.

We are planning a trip in early February and I am waiting until the discounts come out to book. I don't want to get my heart set on a resort and plan around it ....and then realize I can stay somewhere else and save some big bucks. I am just going to wait....and I hope I don't have to wait too much longer LOL

Looks like I modified my late February 2024 stay in late September 2023 to take advantage of a discount.
