I've been watching the fares and they're going up, up and up.

Should I book now or wait a bit longer?

Was hoping to fly Jet Blue again, but for a family of 4 the rate is currently $1,477.60

AirTran is $797.60, so I'll take the savings.

Other thoughts/suggestions?

keep an eye on it. and remember to book mid week - never book on a friday, saturday, sunday or monday - tickets tend to be $20-50 more those days. if the ticket price per person is more than $250, hold off. use the fare finder on kayak or bing, they'll show you pricing trends! :) good luck, i hope you find a good deal!

Be careful with Airtran.

Last year we booked with them about 4 months out and they changed our nonstop flights to very lengthy stop overs ( there were no other options- nonstop flights were all cancelled for travel Mon to Thursday.) I was able to cancel, and I booked Jet blue for a little more because it was so close to our departure date.
Much nicer planes and the TV's and snacks and free seat assignment and free checked bags were also a bonus.

I will not feel comfortable booking with Airtran again. Just my opinion.

If we do fly AirTran, this will be our 3rd time. In the past we have never had an issue with them. Agree that JetBlue is nicer/better though, but for that price I could almost fly out of YYZ... so we'll see what happens.

$800ish is pretty good. What is that pp before all taxes and fees? Remember that AT is charging for bags, too.

I liked AT okay. When they changed our flights to something we didn't like I just called and explained why it wouldn't work for us & she put us on something else that would. It was easy peasy. I don't think people realize that you don't have to accept the change when AT sends it to you. I think the email containing the change required me to click on a link to accept the change. I called instead.

They never sent us a change notification. Which is why I say be careful.

I happened to be checking our flights ( because of posts from other Disers complaining about Airtran) and noticed the flights were gone.
Also, accepting a change only works if there are reasonable options available.
If they decide to change flights like removing all the non stop flights to 3 hr layovers, that is not OK with me.

Yes they were able to cancel our flights, no problem over the phone, which is good to know. No fee to cancel because they made the change.
This was for Feb. by the way. Not a real busy time, so I'm sure that is why they downsized flights.

This is just my experience. Cheapest isn't always the best route. I have seen (and booked) $72.00 fares from Jet blue to Orlando.

Oh, and I checked the dates on Jet blue you have in you Signature,,,Nov.4th to the 18th, and I got a price of $1160.00 for 4 Buffalo to Orlando.
Sometimes if you clear your browser, you get a different price.
Hope that helps.

Also if you book and the price drops, you will recieve credit for a future flight.
Airtran does not do that.

That price is for stop-over flights, we only fly direct. But thanks for checking, LOL I got excited and though the price dropped or something. :rotfl:

Oh, just checked again after I posted...and I put in Wednesday as a return date, not Thursday! Sorry about that.:rolleyes1

I hope you can find a good deal!

I booked our flights for November as soon as the November fares for JB were announced back in April, I know they have since gone up aprox $135 pp, I would suggest to try checking for 1, 2 or 3 seats when you check prices, you might be able to secure 2 or more tix at a lower price and only have to pay more for the remaining seats for your party. This will be a good savings for your family. I know I see many times "only 2 seats available at this price" on JB website if i price just a fare for 1 person.
Good Luck

Did you check Southwest for November? I do see some one way fares for $69.00 depending when you are travelling.

I did the same thing. AirTran was much cheaper than SW. To the tune of $500. That is A LOT of money IMHO. Also, as I was watching the flights we purchased they have only gone up so I am glad I purchased when we did. It seems like they sell their "cheap" seats first and as the plane fills the price goes up. Even with the reserved seat and baggage fees we save over $400. People have good and bad experiences with every airline. Good luck!

Just an idea, but if you are looking at Buffalo, why not try looking at Rochester as well - a bit more of a drive, but not bad. We did this Feb 2009 and I really loved the airport - very easy to get around and we had a nice hotel to park, stay and fly. Jet Blue flys out of here - the prices may vary - we fly out of Buffalo usually, but I do check both airports every time and have noticed more times than not that Rochester Jet Blue flights were cheaper. Not always the case, but most of the time.

Oh I see your dates are Nov 4 - 18th. With Souhwest flights are $89.00 one way. There is a nonstop on the southbound trip and 1 stop on the return. Total for 4 people is $812.40 incl taxes and 2 free checked bags. AirTran charges $15.00 for each checked bag.

I always fly southwest to florida form buf. They offer nonstop at least once a day to mco and they're super cheap even without the savings of 2 checked bags for free.
