Book an AP discount BEFORE purchasing AP?

I read on mousesavers.com that I could book an AP discount on a room as long as I purchase an AP before checking in...Is this true? I am on the fence about buying an AP yet, since we will PROBABLY be going twice in 08 but I was going to wait until closer to our January trip to decide. Since I might be buying an AP anyways, I really don't want to miss out on any AP discounts that might become available for the January trip.

So is it true? Can I book an AP discount with just the intent to buy an AP? And since our current ressies are with AAA would I call my agent and have her change it or would I need to call CRO directly?

Thanks!

we did just that! we'd been given park hoppers for Christmas, so we booked with an AP rate and upgraded once we arrived! they even let us check in first, though ive heard this is not always the case. they didnt even question it, though. this was may of 06. good luck with the rates! i am hoping for some myself for jan!!

Yes, you can do that, but I wish that Disney would enforce having to have at least a voucher to book the rate. The thing is, folks that are just looking for a good discount and who could care less that they are getting an annual pass will book at an AP rate, and then later if/when a public code comes out, they will end up switching to that code and thereby avoiding having to purchase the AP. Meanwhile they have had an AP rate room tied up, not allowing someone with an actual AP to book it.

Sorry, didn't mean to rant. And really it is Disney's fault for not putting in a safeguard against this. I never blame anyone looking for a good deal.

I wouldn't be surprised if they do this (require at least the voucher before letting someone book with an AP discount). Since the AP discounts generally come out only a few months before the travel dates, I don't think that asking for the person's AP or AP voucher number would be unfair.

Didn't they try to do that once before? I seem to remember a short period where they were requiring APs or vouchers before booking the discount, but then changed the policy back.

Of course I could just be losing it. :rotfl:

We book the AP rate before buying a AP if our AP has expired. Then we buy the AP when we get to WDW.

Sorry, but I hope they don't do this. My AP expired in May, but I'm going back in late Sept/Oct and again in Dec and again next May and Sept. I was able to get free dining via the Bounce Back Program for my Sept/Oct trip, but had to buy a one day MYW ticket to do so. I will be upgrading my ticket to another AP when I get there Sept 29th. However, if an AP discount comes out in late August (as they're saying it will), I plan to apply the AP discount to my Dec room. I'll definitely be buying an AP regardless, but do not feel it will be wrong to apply the AP discount in late August for my Dec trip, even though I won't have my new AP until late Sept. If they were to require an AP or AP voucher prior to allowing us to apply the AP discount I would miss the AP discount for my Dec trip because of having to wait on that one day MYW ticket from my upcoming Sept trip.

I do feel the CMs should check everyone's AP when they check in. I've only been asked for mine twice.
