We are going on our first cruise in September 2006. I've read various messages about Disney giving a discount when you book on-board. If I want to get a jump-start on a good cabin for 2007 when available, can I book online and then have my discount applied to the reservation when I cruise in September 2006?

I think it is always best to book when the rates first come out. When you do get onboard you can check the current rates to see which is better.

As time passes and rates increase it is very possible that the reservation you booked when the rates first came out is a better price than your onboard booking even after considering the onboard credit.

Another benefit is that booking right away gives you more time to pay off the cruise. Lets say you want to book Sept 2007 and the rates come out for 2007 in Sept of 2005; that gives you two years to pay off the cruise. If you find the rate is better onboard then any money already paid towards your orignal booking can be transferred over.
