Hello all,
I just bought two boogie or body boards (not sure what you call them) last week and today was the first day they used them at Jones Beach and they totally fell apart inside the skin.

At the beach for the day and after a couple of hours they totally crumbled. I saw other people there and their boogie boards were fine.

I spent $15 per board and both crumbled.

What should I look for next time. I've never had them before so know nothing about them, but the kids LOVED them til they crumbled.

Think target will take them back, I do have the receipt?

Target is really good about taking things back, esp if they are broken. You can generally return 2-3 things a year without a receipt. They usually ask for your drivers license. As for what to look for next I have no idea!! Good luck~

The exact same thing happened to us last summer! We bought the boards in Savannah while on vacation. One broke in half right away. When I returned home to Charlotte I went to return it without my receipt. They were able to look up my purchase using my debit card and gave me a refund no problem. :-)

Take them back! Target will take them they are clearly defective. I have no advice other than to return them, good luck!

Yes back they go tomorrow. Not sure what to buy next, any advice.

My brothers have Hard Slick boards. My baby :rotfl2: brother is 6'4" and weighs in at about 240 & it supports him. I think they run around $30 - $35. I think he got his at a shop at the beach. He's had it for several years.

Hope this helps!

I get my girls boogie boards from 5 below. They r $5 and my oldest is 130lbs and shes used hers all summer witn no issues. Plus since they are only 5$ i dont feel bad repacing it should I need to.

Target took back no problem..My dd is only 90 pounds dh 160, the boards were $15 each from Target they were the larger ones. I'm afraid to try the 5 below. Were they just defective boards or were was my family too rough in the ocean?
Thank you everyone for advice.

we get em right on the beach a board shop they were less than 15 each and have lasted 4 yrs now! good luck

All of ours come from shops at the beach- and my family is REALLY rough in the water with them. We have a range of people using them, from around 60lbs to about 190lbs. Some of them have broken, but they lasted at least a year or two. We have one that we've had for almost 10 years now, and it's still intact.

We got ours at 5 below and they were great in Myrtle Beach. The Boogie Boards are different then the wooden ones I think. We saw people with the Boogie Boards in the water riding the waves. The Skim Boards (wooden) are for skimming along the edge of the wave on the beach/sand. im not an expert, but this is what I observed. My kids had the styrofoam ones wrapped in fabric. They used them in the water and still have them.

DD has a Hard Slick one, and a $5 below one. You can definitely tell the difference in quality. the 5 below one is a good backup. Maybe the Target ones got some type of dry rot. They should have held up longer.

We just bought ours at Sports Authority. They were Body Glove brand. One was 19.99 and the other was 29.99. They have been great!!! But I also second the beach shops. We still have one that we bought from a beach shop almost 15 years ago....only thing wrong is the strap broke off.
