My friend is going to loan me either her Minnie character dress, or her Snow White character dress to dress up in for the Halloween party, and the Boo To You Parade when I go this year. I'm super excited. This is my first time going to the Halloween party, and the parade. Although it's not my first time to Disney World.

I was wondering what everyone's experience has been when they dress up as Disney characters, for Halloween. How have the real characters (the CMs dressed as the Disney characters) responded when they saw you. I've actually been trying to decide between dressing up as a Disney character. Or dressing up as one of the members of the Villain band that look like skeletons in the Villain unit of the parade.

Just a note:
We do not yet know if they will still be allowing adults to wear costumes to the halloween parties.

It seems that they might allow it, but at least at this time, the rules have been clearly restated that no guest over 14 years of age can wear costumes into the theme parks.

Fingers crossed adults will still be able to dress up for parties!

OP, in general, the characters do seem to really respond to adults in costume. Guess they figure you're really a fan if you dress up as an adult. One year, Captain Jack really took a shine to my Mother Gothel dress--guess he has a thing for bad girls ;). LOL. If it's allowed, definitely go for it! You'll love the party and the parade!

As someone who regularly dresses up as more rare seen things, and things geared more towards non "character" costumes, DO THE SKELETON BAND OH MY GOD THEY WOULD ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!!
In the past we've done parade styled costumes and they LOVE it, we've gotten so much attention from them and had so much fun, because it's rare that you ever see things like that. It's more popular with Festival of Fantasy and the instagram comunity being huge over it, but still. So, if it's allowed, do that one lol!

Could someone please explain the adult costume ban? I've actually forgotten the details. Is it because Disney feels it would be easier for a terrorist to operate in a costume? Or is it that an adult in a costume could hide a weapon or explosive easier? I've been thinking about this with the appearance of some new threads asking about adult costumes for the Halloween parties. In all seriousness, I forget what prompted the current ban. Could someone please help refresh my memory? Gracias!

Disney released new security rules earlier this year, and one of them said that persons age 14 and older are not permitted to wear costumes in the parks. They did not define "costume" and they did not make any explicit reference to the Halloween parties, neither including nor excluding them from the rule, which makes it appear they are included.

That's all the actual detail there is.

The relevant passages from Disney's website:

We suggest you dress comfortably, wear good walking shoes and check the local weather report before you leave for the parks at Walt Disney World Resort.

Proper attire, including shoes and shirts, must be worn at all times. The parks are a casual, family-oriented environment. Ensuring that the parks are family friendly is an important part of the Disney experience. In that spirit, we ask you to use your discretion and common sense.

Inappropriate Attire

Attire that is not appropriate for the parks—and which may result in refusal of admittance—includes but is not limited to:

  • Costumes may not be worn by Guests 14 years of age or older
  • Masks may not be worn by Guests 14 years of age or older (unless they are for medical purposes)
