What is the best place to rent? I read in another thread booking.com and looked. Rates were cheap but is that site legit? Do they handle it or just match you with the timeshare owner?

In the past I have used a lady I found on VRBO. This trip I used Vacation Strategy. VS was cheaper.

In September 2014 we rented via eBay through "5 Star Resorts" with great success. $499 for a 3 bedroom deluxe for a week, low season, booked just two weeks before travel. No extra taxes or fees.

Prices are a lot higher if you want to book well in advance. Discounts kick-in as the date gets closer and they have unsold inventory to fill.

It can vary a lot by time of year. September is probably the lowest-demand period, so the easiest to find great deals.

I just booked 10 days at Bonnet Creek for $1474. including taxes and fees through VRBO with an owner named Megan Bailey who works with a company named Endless Escapes. I checked them out o the BBB site and saw they have an office in Williamsburg, VA. I live in the area so I even went by to make sure it was a real office when I was in the area and it is. This was the lowest price I found searching VRBO and others like Farrells and Vacation Strategies for June.

We like Vacation Strategy. They also have a generous cancellation policy.

I have book through both Vacation Strategies, and Ken Price at Vacation Upgrades. Ken Price is great about booking less than 60 days out, 2 bedroom are $120 per night. That is about as good as it gets unless you can grab one on ebay closer to the date from someone just trying to unload it.
