HELLO EVERYONE,

I AM ONE OF MANY THAT GET MOTION SICKNESS ON PLANES, BOATS AND ROLLER COASTERS. I AM LOOKING INTO GETTING BONINE OR MECLIZINE SO I CAN ENJOY MY UPCOMING TRIP TO WDW.

I CAME ACROSS BONINE CHEWABLES. HAS ANYONE EVER USED THEM? IF SO, ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATFUL.

THANKS

Is this the kind you take once every 24 hours? If it is, then it has a time release formula in it which seems to cut down on the drowsiness you can feel when you take something like Gravol.

Don't take it in conjunction with any other antihistamines (hayfever medication etc.) or it might just knock you out! Can't enjoy Disney when you are asleep!

It may also give you a bit of a dry mouth, so just make sure you keep well watered.

Another trick for motion sickness is plain old ginger ale. Amazingly enough, studies have shown ginger in being very effective in combatting motion sickness, morning sickness and drug-induced sickness (cancer meds). If you find the Bonine makes you too tired, pick up some ginger snaps (cookies) or tins of ginger ale and carry them with you. It works great for me in the car if I am trying to read. Without it I feel ill when I read in the car.

Have fun on your trip!

JENNIE ,

THANKS FOR THE QUICK REPLY. THE PACKAGE SAYS TO TAKE IT ONCE A DAY. I'VE NEVER TRIED IT BEFORE SO I'M NOT SURE HOW I WILL FEEL. I LEAVE ON A MONDAY MORNING SO MAYBE WHAT I WILL DO IS TRY TAKING IT ON FRIDAY AND SEE HOW I FEEL THE NEXT DAY.

I CANT DRINK SODA BUT I WILL PICK UP A PACK OF GINGER SNAPS.

THANKS SO MUCH!!!!!

I am one of those who gets sick just going around the corner. I always keep this on hand and NEVER leave home without it. In fact, we flew from MN/St.Paul to SC in October and I forgot to take before getting on plane and lost my cookies!!!! YUCK!!! Anyway, made for an aweful day so I will NOT forget the next time. I've never tried the meclizine that so many talk about...bonine works for me and I'm afraid to switch...I hear it's the same but I'll stand beside my tried and true friend:)
Have a magical trip!!!!

Don't Leave Home without it :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

I have 2 boys that get motion sick on simple rides. My neighbor told me about the Bonine and we used it last time at Disney. The boys took 1 pill after breakfast each morning and NEVER had a problem. It didn't make them tired at all!!!!! They even said that the Dramamine didn't work as well as this stuf. I just stocked up on my supply cuz we leave in 21 days YIKES it's almost here...

Thanks Scrapaholic & Lew for your replies.

I purchased Bonine last night. chewable tablets (8 pk) Should I start taking it the night before my flight or the morning of my flight?

Lew - I noticed we'll be in the WORLD at the same time. Let's hope for low crowds and great weather!!!!!!

Disneybrat, does Bonine come in a children's dose, or do you just split an adult tablet in half?

LAH,

I gave our son who was 11 at the time 1 chewable and he did fine. He is also on the petite side. The directions say not to give to anyone 12 and under unless prescribed by the doctor.

I am crossing fingers for good weather tooooo!!!!! that's neat we're all going to be there the same time :sunny: I did read a thread somewhere about taking mittens the el cheapo kind and get hand warmers for a buck from walmart. I am going out today to try and find some of the hand warmers. They cost $1 for 6 is what I read. Are you flying or Driving when you go there LAH?? We fly out of Greensboro on the 28th.

Lew

OOPS sorry Jennie I got confused on who I was replying LOL

LAH I would take it morning of your flight eat first thing then take your Bonine... I had also read where people would take it the day before to see how it made them feel when we went on our cruise... As far as my kiddos they only took theirs in the morning and never experienced sickness :earsboy:

LEW,

I HAVE TO GO IN SEARCH OF THOSE HAND WARMERS TOO. IT WAS 44 DEGREES THIS MORNING IN WDW. THAT BEATS THE 19 DEGREES HERE IN NJ.

WE ARE FLYING OUT OF PHILADELPHIA ON FEB. 2ND.

PS. SHOULD I TAKE THE PILL THE NIGHT BEFORE MY FLIGHT?

THANKS!!!!!!!

LAH

OOPS, I GOT AHEAD OF MYSELF.

I THINK I MIGHT TRY IT THE NIGHT BEFORE TO SEE HOW I FEEL. I DID READ SOMEWHERE THAT PEOPLE SAID THEY FELT SLEEPY WHEN TAKING IT.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST? 8 HOURS?

Soo...once a day. I usually take mine in the am and do just fine. My wish is for you and others a very magical trip.

I think I'm one of the few people who don't like Bonine - it makes me feel very jittery and uncomfortable. Dramamine Less Drowsy, the kind that lasts 24 hours, works great for me.

I asked my pediatrician about giving the kids half a Bonine because the package said not to give it to kids under 12. She told me that they had to put that warning on the package if the company hadn't tested it in children, and that it probably wasn't tested in children because of the expense. She said it was fine to give them. (They also prefer the Dramamine. I wish they made the childrens' Dramamine in a 24 hour chewable instead of just four hour.)

Is Bonine available at drug stores? Is it expensive? I'm thinking my mom might want to try it. She hasn't flown in 30+ years and I'd hate for her to not feel well on the flight. Thanks!

Debbie.... I buy mine at Walmart. I pay 2.93 for 8 chewable tablets(yummy raspberry) all the kids liked them even my picky eater kiddo :teeth: My box states that the bonine last longer than dramamine by 4 times. hope this helps :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Bonine is great! It makes me a little sleepy, I counteract that by drinking a diet coke. I've never tried it for rides, only flying and then only flying out to the West coast and back. I do ok flying down to Florida, but that jet stream and mountains get me every time. I'm the type that will get car sick driving! Hopeless.....anyway, I've always taken it 1 hour before my flight, or right before I leave the house to go to the airport. Dramamine makes me sick, go figure. I used to use the patches, now those were great, except the dry mouth, sleepiness and fuzzy vision, LOL. But never got sick!
Enjoy your trip!
Gretchen

Bonine also makes me drowsy, so I take it before I go to bed...it's good for 24 hours. Have a great time! :D
