Has anyone given their young kids (DD8 and DS5) Bonine for motion sickness? Per package instructions it's not supposed to be for folks less than 12, but has anyone used it for the younger crowd?

I have given it to my nine year old in the past. I had checked with the doctor first though and got her OK before our first cruise, as I am leary of giving him anything like that without her advice.

My MD okayed my son (age 6) to have a half a Bonine IF he needed it. BUT I would always check with child's MD before giving anything or taking anyone's advise on this.

Personally, I take Bonine whenever I fly or cruise because I can't deal with nausea. It's been fine for me (doesn't make me drowsy or giddy) but then again, I'm an adult!

Happy Sailing!

I purchased Walmarts generic motion sickness med because it had dosages for children 3 and up. My twins were 3 at the time and I wanted to get one medicine that covered all of us. Also, check the Dramimine labels, some of them are labeled for children. DH and I had to use the med a few times, but never had to give it to our kids-go figure!

I spoke to my pediatrician for my girls (4&2) and they recommended the children's Dramamine. Dosage should be either 1/4 tablet for 2 yr old and 1/2 tablet for 4 yr old. They also told me that little ones tend not to get motion sickness because they are low to the ground.

I ended up buying 2 packages of the children's Dramamine because us adults can also take it. For adults, the package recommends 1 or 2 tablets. I normally take the Dramamine the 1st day of the cruise but only 1 tablet. I have never taken more a dosage on the first day. I have gone on some pretty rocky ships too.

I gave him half of a bonine the night before we sailed (as was suggested by his pediatician - they are supposed to last 24 hrs.), & then he asked me for more the next evening right before dinner. He said he felt queasy (sp?) & it scared him. After that he was fine for the rest of the cruise w/o any. I took the same stuff, but a whole tab.

On our second cruise he didn't ask for it at all & was fine. I slacked off, myself, since I had sort of slept through a lot of the first cruise!!!!

Did you know you can also give a antihistamine to your kids...like benadryl. The pedi said it's the antihistamine that works like the dramamine & bonine so it's basically doing the same thing. It's usually recomended for toddlers and real young ones...if needed.
