When we were looking into trying someplace new for our 1st night of our Honeymoon I was torn between the Boathouse, Homecoming and Bongo's. Bongo's was my husbands pick and after reading some of the reviews I wasn't very excited about having dinner here. Boy, we I wrong! This was one of the BEST meals we had during out trip ( and we had a lot of good food - this one just unexpectedly rose to the top ).
We arrived around 930p for a 950p reservation and luckily they were able to seat us right away. We had driven 8 hours to get into Disney that night so we were thankful to sit down and start to unwind from the day.
The 1st thing I noticed was the restaurant was very busy. There are 2 floors and it seemed like a constant flow of people. The restaurant is bright and have an electric vibe to it. We were seated on the 1st floor in the back near the windows at a nice table for 2. We were greeted right away but our waiter who promptly took out drink orders ( I had a Pina Colada - which was very fresh - it did not taste like one out of the machines and it wasn't quite as thick and my husband had a Coke ).
I had the Cuban Style 10 oz Skirt Steak - this was melt in your mouth delicious. I had it cooked medium rare and it came to the table perfectly cooked. The flavor was outstanding. It had a chimichurri sauce that was flavorful without being overpowering. The sides were white rice and black beans. I'm not a black bean fan so I just had the rice. It was slightly flavored with lime and was very good.
My husband had the Tour of Cuba - It had a bowl of shredded chicken, shredded pork and shredded beef. Each was tender and had a subtle hint of flavors ( each a bit different ). He enjoyed it very much. His entree came with the same white rice and sweet plantains. I wasn't a fan of the plantains but he said he liked them - not too sweet and the right amount of soft if that makes sense.
We were so full after dinner, that we ended up bringing our dessert back to the room with us ( along with some of the steak and pork. ) The mini dessert of the evening was a airy chocolate cake with light chocolate frosting accompanied by a dark chocolate square. When we ate it the next day we devoured it.
It is important to note that Bongos does have a wonderful house band that plays in the evening about every 15 minutes for about 10 minutes or so. They also have dancing couples who went around the room trying to get people at tables to dance. We saw that many couples did join in. The music is wonderful and authentic but because of this, I wouldn't recommend it if you are looking for a nice quiet meal.
We certainly will return.
