Bonfire night

It's 2am here and they're still going off constantly, I haven't even bothered trying to sleep yet. I live near fields and some of the local teenagers decided it would be really fun to set it on fire earlier! Of course we called the fire brigade as soon as we saw the 12ft flames at the end of the street. They showed up but told OH there was nothing they could do as if they put it out the kids would just go to another spot and start another. They just told the teenagers to "keep an eye on it" and not throw anything unecessary on it, presumably that would include the traffic cone we saw get chucked on??

I do love fireworks and bonfires, I just wish there was someway to regulate it better so I wasn't sat here at 2am listening to the Somme. Banning fireworks wouldn't work around here as I know the kids are just nicking them from the warehouses.

Our next door nieghbours but one had a party in the back garden last night! They lit a stinky fire in a metal busbin and let fireworks off every so ofter over about 2 hours. Our cat was scared to death and two fireworks fell onto our conservatory roof on their way back down to earth

I agree with AndRu - home fireworks should be banned!

The sale of fireworks to the general public should be banned. Only organised, safety concious events should be allowed so that we, our children and pets can live a normal life. It's been like a re-enactment of the Somme round here the last two nights, the kids won't sleep. Our cats are scared witless. And what for? Ask people what they're letting fireworks off for or what date it's to commemorate and 99% wouldn't have a clue.

Fireworks should be banned :furious: :furious: :furious:

So no, I won't be going to one!
Agree :thumbsup2

We've had fireworks going off here since it got dark  Think one of our neighbours is trying to re-create Wishes from his garden :sad2:

Probably down to the diminishing state of the education system and the fact that we're not allowed to celebrate anything British these days. We're "happy" to ban children going around asking for "a penny for the guy" but seem to actively encourage american imports, such as "trick or treat" , giving licence to scrounge and certain types to terrorise. [rant over]

I, for one, think Bonfire Night should be celebrated and never forgotten. However, I would like to see Bonfire Night "returned" to November 5th (as it was in my youth), and something (whatever) done to that small minority that wishes destroy it for the majority.

We thoroughly enjoyed our private display. Cats were locked away, sister-in-law's horses shut in their stables, mother-in-law's dog locked in, and the guinea pigs given an extra bowl of Gerty.

We went to an organised display in a park in Manchester last night. Then back to a neighbour of David's Mum and Dad who was having his own party. He had spent a lot of money on fireworks and it was great but he kept waiting inbetween each set so the neighbours didn't know whether it was over or not. I think it was over by about 10.30 by which time David's mum was pulling her hair out, the poor dog has been barking all night. I think I'll stick to the organised ones in future.

I remember penny for the guy and wondered what happened to it.

I love anything that has a certain time of the year tradition. We have a loft conversion up in DD's bedroom and I was just up there with her looking at the fireworks. It does not seem so good since only just coming back from Walt Disney World but at least it marks a different part of the season which I like.

So looking forward to Christmas as have the time off work between Xmas and New Year this year and are away at Center Parcs for New year. So only another 7 weeks for me and 6 and half weeks for Kirsty.

Not that keen on Sunday nights!

I dont have a display at home - we go to an organised one. But my son always gets to have sparklers in the garden on Nov 5th to mark the occasion. Just thought I would share a pic.

Great photo raterfly :)

DH took DD to a small local display and I snuggled up at home with DS :) I am amazed what both kids have managed to sleep through
