I like Obama and had intended on voting for him if he got the nomination, but I am appalled that his minister is making this out to be a racial issue; regardless of the truth in his message. The US presidency should never be about skin color (and I'm sure people of color could tell me that it's not about skin color to me because I'm a white woman who hasn't been held back). How does this type of hate; and he was most definitely spewing hate all the while claiming he was not, bring us all together? After watching the video and knowing this is who Obama has listened to for 20 years, I guess I'm rethinking my decision to vote for him.

I was sold on his message of hope and my belief that he's the strongest candidate to unite the country. People can tell me that Obama should not be held accountable for this man's choice of words and normally I would agree with you. Not when it's someone he's listened to for 20 years, though.

I heard a snippet of his Pastor on the radio this morning. The one thing that stood out in my mind is when he mentioned Obama being raised by a single mother. Isn't his mother white? I don't know anything about their relationship, but I wonder how she feels about his church.

Obama is going to have to do more than put out a statement by someone in his campaign. Saying he doesn't agree with everything won't be enough. He will have to personally speak to the American people and get very specific on the points that he is not in agreement with. Even then, it may not be enough. This will reach across party lines. It is not going to be just Republicans who wouldn't have voted him anyway who will be in doubt, but it will also be Democrats and Independents. The message that this minister is preaching is contrary to everything that Obama has tried to represent himself as to the public. There will be people who wanted to embrace Obama's message who will now distrust what sort of change he is hoping to accomplish. Many people are going to be discouraged and disheartened because they really thought this man held a lot of promise.

even if you want to spin this as just a spiritual level, which I, for one, don't believe for a second....he uses him as an advisor...and has followed his advice and judgements for 20 years? How could it not affect the job he would do if he became president?

Yeah - I generally will continue to attend the Church of a pastor I dont 'believe' for 20 years. Be married by a pastor I dont 'believe' for 20 years. And have my kids baptised by a pastor I dont 'believe' for 20 years.
