UPDATED: 2:10 pm EDT August 5, 2004
PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. -- Concerns about possible explosives kept parts of Port Canaveral closed for a time Thursday when bomb-sniffing dogs picked up on something suspicious during a supply transfer.
Disney Wonder
Passengers aboard the Disney Wonder were temporarily detained while a bomb squad inspected the ship's supplies. A bomb-sniffing dog identified a scent on a shipment of new mattresses that were being loaded onboard the ship.
The passengers in the process of debarkation were forced to remain aboard while the mattresses and other supplies were investigated. Two additional bomb-sniffing dogs were brought on scene and also picked up the scent.
New passengers waiting to embark were kept waiting in the parking lot until the suspicious materials were removed from the loading area. No explosive materials were found and the exchange of passengers commenced without additional delay.
The Brevard County Sheriff's office is investigating, but the Wonder has been cleared to set sail Thursday evening.
