What are the must eat items on the buffet at Bomas besides the obvious Zebra Domes?

For me it's the Tamarand BBQ Salmon. My wife loves the Mac n' Cheese. There is also a great beef dish, i can't remember the name but it was beef in a pastry type crust. I also enjoyed trying some of the African beers. It was great trying everything. It's actually my favorite. :goodvibes

I would agree with the Salmon, we all hated the Zebra Domes but did try them...there were lots of cool things to try and lot of traditional stuff if you did not like the "African" flavors.

We too hated the zebra domes- but had to try. As for me, i love their falafal, and the soups. Also they had some great breads. Enjoy!

Fou fou( sp?) ,most of the soups, the salmon,Durban roasted chicken and the potatoes with afritude were our favs..But they didn't have the potatoes our last trip in December

Ahhh Boma I love you...let me count the ways!

1. Soups - try them all...but our favs are the seafood cous cous, crab bisque, butternut, chicken coconut curry

2. Hummus - 3 different kinds, all yummy

3. Salads - curry pasta salad, watermelon rind, calamari, papaya & avocado

4. Hot dishes - bobotie (the beef dish that the OP was describing), fufu (sweet potatoes), salmon

5. Desserts - zebra domes, pineapple upsidedown cheesecake, bread pudding w/ chocolate rum sauce

Enjoy :)

Ahhh that's it... bobotie. Thanks :thumbsup2

Yes the soups are great.

I would have to agree with the OP's about the Zebra Domes. They are very very sweet.

All of the desserts. All of the soups. Watermelon Rind Salad is awesome! So is the special Pasta Salad they serve!

The mulligatawny soup was a big hit with us last year (especially Grandpa, he probably had 3 or 4 bowls of it!).
DW loved the hummus and I loved all the cold salads and the carving station!!!

PP is right... the hummus is awesome... so are the roasted meats (beef especially!). I tried two of the soups (can't remember which) but both were very good. The beef/pastry dish a PP described is also very yummy! We got one of everything on the dessert table and thought it was all very good, especially the upside down pineapple cheesecake! I tried the watermelon rind salad due to favorable reviews, but didn't like it. To me, most everything here is a Must Eat!!!! =)

Everything was delicious to us...especially the soups (butternut squash). :lovestruc The only items that we thought were blah were the items on the kid's menu... the chicken nuggets and the typical Disney mac & cheese.

Another vote for the soups! I know soup may not sound all that exciting, but these are way above average. :earsboy:

I love sweets and chocolate and didn't think the Zebra Domes were all that. Good, but not fantastic.

I loved the watermelon salad, hummuses, any of the soups, and the breads. Honestly I liked everything I tried. We thought about going back again that week it was that good!

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone. You did not steer us wrong. Now I am contemplating weather or not there will be space to go back for Easter Sunday. It was just so good.

Definitely try all the soups. Even if you are not a big soup person, they are really wonderful. My favorite was the coconut curry soup. I wanted to crawl in the bowl and just live there it was so good!! We loved it so much, we made two ADRs there for our upcoming trip in September
