What is your experience of this dining venue. How do I book and what do you think you would do next time you went. i.e. seating plans, reservation times. I have heard good reports so I am tempted to surprise my "extended family" and treat them.

AWFUL:mad:

Sorry Id heard good things about this to, but certainly wouldnt go again, food was awful, and children, running amock /climbing on tables etc terrible

The Animal Kingdom Lodge was superb though

Tell them where you want your PS and at what time. I think with this place you are seated where there is a table free!

We've eaten there three times and enjoyed it on each occasion. It's not an 'upscale' restaurant by any stretch of the imagination, but as a eat-all-you-want buffet I think it is pretty good. Food ranges from typical roast meat and vegetables, through to slightly more unusual dishes with an African flavour. I particularly enjoyed the fact that you can have a little bit of everything, something which isn't possible when you normally order from a menu. At $20 per head I also thought it was reasonable value, and it gives a great excuse to visit Animal Kingdom Lodge (which I highly recommend you do).

Signtalker's point about children in the restaurant is spot on. I guess any self-serve buffet will lead to lots of over-excited kids moving around the restaurant. If you are looking for a special venue for a romantic meal this is not it, but if you want a unusual self-serve buffet in a wonderful location at a reasonable price Boma might fit the bill!

We went a couple of weeks ago. If you look past the themeing its like a cafeteria but the themeing does cover that up well. I did think the description I had read before 'graze from pods' a bit romantic. It has been a victim of its own success in a way as it is so very busy (not that we felt rushed at all) We also didn't have children running about when we were there on a 5.30 sitting.

However, if I was going tomorrow, this would still be my first priority to book as the food was excellent and the AKL awesome. We were told to eat a little of everything and go back for our favorites. We did that, the server cleared the plates quickly, and we were there just over the three hours allowed parking. (I suppose we sat down 45 mins after parking).

IMHO Boma's is one of the best buffet style meals in Orlando. Because the food tries to be a little different, it puts an African and/or Arabic slant on the more usual American/European dishes, I can see why not every dish will be to everyone's taste but I fail to see how someone couldn't find anything nice to eat there. I know that much of the food is a little spicy, but everytime I've visited they have had a large rib of beef on offer, so unless you're a veggie there is always something "standard" on offer.

AKL itself is worth the visit so if you do go give yourself time to look over the animal areas. With any Disney restaurant it's possible you will find unruly kids, that's hardly the fault of the restaurant and it's a risk you run eating anywhere on site. Granted the buffet style does encourage people to let their kids go and help themselves to something, but that's a potential problem at any buffet you chose to eat at and the genre does have the counterbalance advantage that it allows the kids to be adventurous and try something they wouldn't usually. If they don't like it , they can get something else.

Vernon, we felt the food was rather bland, not spicy!!.
We had gone thinking it would be full of spices and authentic recipes, but we were very disapointed. It was obviously geared up to the american palate and was very sweet!!!

Another thumbs up from us :)

We ate at Bomas two years ago and loved it - in fact, it still rates as one of my favourite meals on property. When we were there it wasn't very busy, but it was still quite noisy because of the acoustics, so I can imagine that would definitely not be helped by lots of lively children about the place.
so unless you're a veggie there is always something "standard" on offer.
We have three veggies-but-not-strictly-veggies in our party of four and we all found something we liked, even if it wasn't a 'standard' like the roast. :)

As has already been said, AKL itself is well worth a visit even if you don't try Bomas.

Boma's has interesting varied food that you don't find in many other places in America. We have eaten here twice now and will return again.

Don't expect it to be African food more an American version of it.

Its worth going for the Zebra Domes alone......definately give it a try :)

Another positive vote. Although it was 2 years ago we all said it was a delicious selection. All 4 of us found more than 3 things to enjoy and that included 1 very fussy teenager!
We also enjoyed having a look around the hotel etc. It took us long time to get there though as we were staying at Fort Wilderness and used the Disney transport.:D Everyone was very relaxed but courteous including the children.

..another vote for Boma.... we like buffet style anyway, as the kids are instantly into the food, none of the "will it be much longer?" whinges and they always find something they like. The choice at Boma was very broad and we all enjoyed different dishes... my favourite dessert was the Banana Bread Vanilla Pudding...yum!

Not somehwere I'd go as a couple... I'd probably try next door, Jiko, much more romantic... it looked lovely from what we could see....but we'd definitely return as a family.

Boma's also an excellent choice for their breakfast buffet. A good choice of hot and cold dishes, excellent coffee and the fruit juice is sublime.
