Okay, I have so much good feedback on another restaurant question I had... so I am gonna ask about Boma and cross my fingers that I will get the advice I need.

My husband is a picky eater. He rarely likes to try "new" things. I just reviewed the menu and its seems to have a lot of african stews and fruits, and some meats, but it wasn't specific to exactly what is served. How would you rate this restaurant for someone who is a "plain" eater?

I am willing to try new foods... something that I would normally never eat... but, my DH is soooo not like that. He would be fine with steak and potatoes everynight. lol He saw the menu and was like : "Kool Slaai, Vegetable Lentil Kofta, and Marrakesh". "WHAT?!!!

Should I chance it?:confused3

There are very few things that are plain - no seasonings. There is the childrens buffet with chicken fingers, mac and cheese and I think there was spaghetti the night we were there. There is green salad and dressing and rolls. Other than that and desserts....

There are some pictures of our plates on my blog (link in my signature) that I just put up the other day with some explanations to what the foods are. Once you get to the main page just go to restuarant reviews on the right side of the page. It is near the top.

Hope this helps some. :)

Here's a lot of what they had on a Wednesday night when we went. Maybe you could show it to him and see? The did also have chicken nuggets and mac and cheese type stuff at the kids station. It's a page from my trip report...

Chicken Pepper Pot Soup (so good!)

Seafood soup with pearl couscous (yum!)

Sausage lentil soup (good)

Carrot ginger soup (soooo good!!)

I tried most everything on the buffet, so here was the meat selection...
sirloin of beef (good), chicken with African spices (okay), pistachio-crusted salmon (sooooo good!), falafel balls with mustard sauce (sooooo good!), and BBQ ribs (pretty good)...

And the side dishes/salads...couscous (good), coconut rice (really good), sundried tomato hummus (they had 2 other hummus' as well) with pita, curried pasta salad (very good), and sauteed veggies (good)...

And the desserts (clockwise)...watermelon (good), butterscotch banana bread pudding (YUM!!!), apple crisp (good), peanut butter mousse with chocolate ganache (OMG), Kenyan coffee tartlet (soo good), passionfruit tart (great), zebra dome (mmmmm!), and in the middle pineapple upside down cheesecake (seriously so good I'm drooling!)...

Thank you soooo much Koolaidsmom. I read your blog and 1 line said it all for me......."It is definitely a place for slightly adventurous eaters".

That is NOT my husband. I think we should skip it. LOL

The pics of the food above looks good (IMO) but my hubby is not willing to try it. :(

We just ate there 4 nights ago. My DH and I love to try new things. There is very little we don't like. I can say I did not like Boma at all. Some of the salads were ok. The lettuce salad and pasta salad were good. I really did not like the watermelon rind salad which is a specialty there.(It tastes like the pickled ginger you get with sushi.) The hummus and soups were good. I had the mushroom soup and really liked it. DH had 2 others and enjoyed them. The hot foods were a little too exotic for my taste. They had a beef loin at the carving station when we were there. Even that tasted a little weird to me. The chicken was ok. Tasted slightly sweet. I tried a little of everything and did not care for most of it. The deserts were ok. Zebra domes were good.
I wouldn't risk it with a very plain eater unless he wants to eat chicken nuggets and fries or mac and cheese. I saw a lot of adults loading up at the kids station because they did not like anything else.:)

We loved Boma. My wife is very picky and likes all her food plain. She even orders salad with no dressing and hamburgers plain so she can add her own ketchup,(doesnt like her ketchup warm) Yes she is weird.. Anyways she really liked Boma, and the service was probably the best we had on the whole trip.. Matt

I know it's pricy, but WOW was it good. I am like your hubby and was scared to try this one, but the Filet Mingon with White Cheddar Mac N Cheese was great. If you choose to go have the red wine sauce put on the side like I did. I ended up loving it, but they will accomodate. :worship:

I love Boma! those pictures are making me want to go back NOW!

I say go for it. I couldn't imagine skipping a restaurant I really wanted to try because of pickyness. He'll find something he likes. ;)

My family loves Boma but we are adventurous. We took another couple, very picky eaters, and they didn't love it or even like it.

Sure, you can eat from the children's station, but who wants to spend that much to eat nuggets?

I don't agree with this. We ate at Boma last trip. My niece had warned me that it isn't our cup of tea (we have similar tastes) but I thought why not? I could be adventerous, at least I would fall back on the strip loin and kids stuff. YUCK, not for me.
The beef had a sweet taste to it, like it was rubbed with cinnamon and the kids stuff was so over cooked it was mush.

I went because I thought my DH would like it, he is a bit adventerous and loves veggie dishes.......but even he didn't like it. People think it is spicy and it isn't, African spices are mainly sweet ones, not hot ones. This is a big mistake for us.

I say if he is a bland eater he will not enjoy it at all.........and WDW is about everyone having fun not just a party of 1.
I hope you find something you both would like.
