Boma???

Boma:African food::PF Changs:Chinese food

Don't kid yourself into thinking these are authentic African dishes as in most cases they have been made fit for 'gringos'. With that caveat in mind, however, the food IS very good and enables you to get some things that are not the standard buffet fare (prime rib, etc) although those are available to you if your idea of exotic dining is a 2nd fork at your place setting.

As mentioned above, their soups are generally fantastic, and their strengths really lie in their vegetable sides rather than the meats where they tend to play it a little more safe.

If there are just the two adults and you want to splurge, and more importantly, get away from the herding that goes on there (didn't you just suffer a week of that at the parks themselves?), then spoil yourself at the fantastic Jiko next door. I wouldn't necessarily call the foods more authentic, but the environment makes it well worth the price of admission. Oh, and they supposedly have the largest selection of African wines in the US if you are into that kind of thing.

Boma is the best restaurant. Period. As soon as we get off the plane we run for Boma to make the last seating of the evening. We dine ALOT and this is by far our favourite buffet that we have ever eaten at. What makes it so good is that the portions as small, but they keep making all of the food continuously so nothing stays out on the buffet line any longer than 10min. (we timed it) It is absolutely fabulous! :worship:

I hate to go against all the *BOME LOVERS*..honestly..I am a little afraid to say :duck:...but if I am being honest...
We didn't love BOMA:sad2:...but I honestly feel it was because we didn't love the seasoning they use in most of the meat dishes. I am not sure what the specific spice is, but we didn't like it..and it seems to be in a LOT of dishes. We were staying at AKL and a lot of the dishes at the MARA seemed to taste similar as well. There are a lot of interesting choices...and we defiantely did not leave hungry, but I don't think we will be going back for dinner. Definately looking forward to trying breakfast there!

Our family doesn't like Boma at all. We thought all the ethnic dishes were sweet and the 'American' dishes were bland and our glasses were not refilled at all, not even the ice water that was free! Must've been there on a bad night. Hope you have a better experience.

Thanks for all your tips an advice. we are going to keep it. I mean what the heck why not? right? Thanks everyone.

Boma is a must for us!!! We're heading back to the 'World in June 2010, and that is where we plan to eat one night. It is a favorite of my DH and DD10, and me too.

Our favorites are the watermelon rind salad, fufu, any and all hummus (especially the kalamata olive!), mealy bread, the beef with the eggs on top, and all of the desserts.

Spring for some of the red wines from South Africa. They are fabulous!!!

The last time we went to Boma, DD came back to the table from the dessert buffet almost in tears, as she saw the sign that most of the desserts contained alcoholic liquors. She was afraid she was going to get drunk!!! :rotfl2: (Fortunately, most things are baked...) Anyway, I told her that she wasn't the designated driver, and that she could have all of the dessert she wanted!!!:cool1:

Go and enjoy. Get there early so you can enjoy the animals on the savannah around the hotel. Take some time to sit around the fire outside in the rocking chairs. AKL is a great way to spend an evening no matter where you are staying!
