is boma a buffet or is it sit down also.thanks. i have never tried african food and we are going in july and we were thinking of trying it. also is there a bar in animal kingdom lodge, this is where boma is right?

Boma is a buffet.

Yes, there is a bar in AKL...it is 1/2 way down the stairs between the lobby and Boma.

There is also a bar in Jiko, we prefer this bar..fantastic bartenders!

is the food better in jiko. i would prefer a sit down but i would like to taste all the flavors of africa. im not sure which one to do. can you go into jiko before dinner to have a drink at the bar. thanks

We love Boma & Jiko :thumbsup2

Boma is the best buffet around! Most of the food will be familiar to you, but with some African/Greek/Middle Eastern seasoning. Some of the food you've probably never seen before but is worth a try. Lot's of things to eat, even for picky eaters.

Jiko is a Signature dining restaurant. The food & service are to die for :worship: Our server told us that most of their menu items are American foods with an African inspired twist.

At either one, make sure you try the hummus! It's wonderful :goodvibes

As previously mentioned, there is a bar off the stairs between the lobby & Boma, overlooking Boma. Neat place! There's also a bar inside Jiko.

Is one night better to go to Boma than another? I am assuming the menu changes every night...

:yay: oh the hummus and the flatbread :lovestruc can't wait to go back to Boma!:cool1:

I made notes in our passporter from that night and they were pretty much :worship: and :cloud9: Boma was our #1 must do again

Boma is a very nice upscale unique buffet and you will sample many flavors of Africa

We haven't been to Jiko but the reviews are :thumbsup2 - it's a sit down dining experience

You can visit any bars and have a drink - that's a fun way to soak up atmosphere

AKL is fantastic, plan a little extra time to walk around inside the main lobby and out back

Don't know if you are on the dining plan, but if so, Jiko is 2 credits and Boma is 1. Don't know if that makes any difference?

Also, you mentioned you wanted to get a taste of a lot of different things, so I would say Boma is the perfect way to go! They encourage you to try a little of everything (so you won't feel bad if you take one bite and leave the rest). All kinds of different soups that are so yummy, lots of different interesting salads, and great meats! Can't go wrong IMHO!

Also, you could certainly have a drink at Jiko's bar and then head to Boma with no problems! ;)

Have a great time!

You should definitely give Boma at try. A former co-worker recommended several years ago that we give it try, so we did and we fell in love with the food! They offer several options from prime rib and chicken fingers to unique salads and the most amazing hummus I've ever tried. Be sure to go hungry and if you're not a guest of AKL make sure you leave plenty of time either before or after to stroll the lodge and take in the unique sights.

There are slight menu variations on the Boma dinner buffet depending on the day of the week. If I remember correctly, there are three rotations covering two days each week (for example Wed & Sat have the same menu), then one day (Sunday?) sort of chef's choice.

I'm not entirely sure of the "matched" menu days. I think someone else has posted them on these boards.

We Love Bomas. It is a must do for us every visit. The soups change, Mondays and Thursdays are our favorite days.

I can't believe no one has mentioned the desserts at Boma's! Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, my they are delicious!!!!!!!!!
