Boma

We will be having dinner at Boma for the first time in December. Our decision to eat there was really based on all the great reviews we read on the boards. We like to try a couple different resturants every time we go to the World and we thought this would be a good choice. Well, time will tell, and we are looking forward to it.

Boma has been one of my must do meals since I first went there in Feb. '03. My last visit to Boma was with my DS(21) and his girlfriend (22), both are vegan. They talked to our server regarding their food choices. The server sent a chef to our table to walk them through the buffet and tell them what they could and couldn't eat...she said they couldn't have most of the desserts and she would make a special dessert for them. After they'd already nearly filled up on all the yummy food (there are a LOT of vegetarian/vegan choices on the buffet), another chef came to the table with a HUGE platter of specially prepared food for them -- lentils, rice noodles, stuffed mushrooms, tofu prepared several ways. And here they are already stuffed....lol. They ate a lot of it and then their special desserts came! They ended up with most of the special food in a doggy bag for their lunch next day. I wish I could remember the names of the chefs involved in this magical meal but I didn't write them down at the time and so they went right out of my head!

Even if I hadn't already loved this restaurant, this whole experience would have impressed me!

Here's a photo of the platter of vegan food:

And here's one of their special dessert (it was a soy based frozen dessert with deep fried chocolate cookies AND it's a hidden Mickey!):

Well, it could have been described as awesome, once upon a time.

Now it is just interesting if you like a little bit of a different choice on your buffet. It's not as luxurious as it once was, nor are the dishes as diverse.

If you've never been, then definitely try it, but it isn't nearly as exciting as when it first opened.

I agree 100%. Years ago, Boma was "awesome." We never missed it, sometimes hitting twice a trip. Recently, though, it has lost some of its magic. It's still good and still a different buffet experience. Worth doing, definitely, but don't go expecting awesome. Enjoy!
