Boma vs. T-Rex for an adult couple.

My significant other and I are deciding between these two restaurants for a dinner.

While she usually isn't interested in trying the African, Indian and Moroccan type foods, Boma's menu does sound good to her. This surprised me. Is it a place that someone, who leans towards American and Mexican dishes, would enjoy? Is there enough variety to assure there is something for everyone?

We will be using the dining plan. TRex, to me, doesn't seem worth a dining credit. Is it true that if it says "for two" on the dessert menu, that we would have to share it? Instead of getting one each? Because the only desserts that look appetizing, to us, are part of the "for two" group. There are a few expensive dishes, but there is also a lot of basic burger type meals. And part of me would like to save the dining credits for places we could otherwise not usually go.

The theme at both restaurants does look like a lot of fun though. The food doesn't appeal to me at Rainforest café, but the theme does make it worthwhile sometimes. I wonder if TRex is similar in this regard.

What are you experiences and thoughts on the matter?

Thanks in advance.

T-Rex is EXTREMELY similar to Rainforest Cafe. They are basically the same only T-Rex has dinosaurs instead of jungle animals. We enjoyed our meal at T-Rex (ribs), but for us it's not much different than your standard rib place or Ruby Tuesday except for the atmosphere. I did see a very large dessert being served to someone. It would have easily fed two people.

I don't believe they will permit you to order a "for two" dessert on DDP at T-REX, which is a contracted restaurant not owned by Disney.

Boma is a more Disney experience, and you can check out AKL after.

Boma is a buffet, so has lots of main-course options, some more and less adventuresome than others. It also has a wide variety of desserts. My husband and I thought that the food at Tusker House was spicier and more unique than Boma, but we were happy to try a new place, and our 8-year-old daughter was glad for food that she could recognize.

We tried BOMA for the first time last May (dinner) and liked it. Some dishes sound exotic in name or description, but everything seemed fairly familiar in practice. Lots of pretty standard meat dishes, salads, soups, etc. (My favorite cuisines are Mexican, Tex-Mex, and Thai.) I didn't have anything at BOMA that I would call 'spicy' (I've actually never had anything even approaching spicy at Disney, including meals at places like Sanaa, and I'm not someone who goes around eating ghost peppers or sprinkling hot sauce on everything.)

That was probably the "chocolate extinction". It's a dessert "for 4". Takes 4 people's dessert credits on the DDP to order it, otherwise, it's OOP.

IMO Boma would be the better choice. You can sample some African-themed foods but still have a great carvery, salmon and more. Even if you don't eat at T-Rex, you can still walk up to the podium and see the T-Rex moving. Maybe have a drink in their themed bar. NB try to arrive at least 20 mins b/f your Boma ADR to walk out back of AKL to see the animals.

Boma is a restaurant we never miss so you can imagine what are choice would be.

Never been to TRex, but Absolutely Never would think of skipping BOMA...Ever!!!

Yes it's a buffet, but only by definition...It's soooo much more ...They have some great servers there. The chef is excellent & very friendly too. My wife has GF allergy & he always shows us what & what not to order, & also makes a special dish/dessert too.

There's a ton of variety here from traditional dishes to exotic, to everything in between....& the soups*(to die for)
And dare I say Desserts...Delish!!!! My vote is for Boma for you:thumbsup2
Plus it's a great resort to explore as well.. So much to do & see here...Give yourself some time before & after so you'll be able to peruse the grounds..

A thousand times Boma. T-Rex is loud and the food was just ok. Parents tend to let their kids run all over the place and each time I have been (twice), they kept bumping my chair trying to get better views of the animatronic dinos. I am a big kid who loves dinosuars, but it will be a while before I try T-Rex again. Boma has excellent food and a much better atmosphere.
