I have ressies for Boma. For a family of older kids that aren't terrible picky but maybe not into really spicy, what would you recommend? I liked the idea of the fire at Boma, but would also like the girls to get to enjoy seeing the animals.

Boma is a buffet, Jiko really is fine dining, Saana is basically a middle of the road restaurant. All of them have spices tuned down so as to not shock sensabilities.

And I don't know of any fire at Boma.

There are fire pits at both resorts outside, but there aren't any in the restaurants.
Boma gets alot of praise, and it's good, but if I had read the rave reviews before going, I would have been disappointed. There is no way anyone can be disappointed with Jiko - it is, without question the finest food in Disney (well..after V&A), but you will be paying a pretty price for it.
Sanaa is awesome in my opinion! The food is quite good, we had a great server, if you get there during daylight, you can request a window and watch giraffe and zebra wander by while you eat, the atmosphere is very pleasant, and the price is right.
If I had to pick one, it would be Sanaa...but I certainly wouldn't steer you away from the other two...you really can't go wrong no matter what you choose!

So is Sanaa the only one that offers a good view of the Savannah? As far as the "finest" dining, that really isn't the top priority (w/the kids) as much as the overall experience that the girls would find enjoyable. Of course the food needs to be worth it, but not uber gourmet if that makes sense.

Also is Sanaa on the DP?

Sanaa is the only one where you can see the Savannah from the restaurant, but only from a very few tables. Chances are you won't get them.

None of the three are overly spicey / have plenty of non-spicey foods.

Boma is a buffet.

Sanaa is a regular table service.

Jiko is a signature dining table service (and is outstanding but will cost a bit more than Sanaa).

Yes. It costs one credit, as does Boma. Jiko is worth two.

All three restaurants have plenty of dishes that picky eaters will find suitable, but they also offer a few exotic options that make them special. If you're willing to try a signature place, Jiko is fabulous. It is consistently ranked among the best restaurants on property.

Boma is my absolute favorite buffet. It is wonderful, especially for dinner, and my whole family loves it. I enthusiastically recommend it.

I have not yet tried Sanaa, but the menu looks fabulous and the reviews have been mostly positive.

I have been to all 3 recently. My order of preference would be

1. Jiko. The food is so amazing, the atmosphere/ambiance is awesome, and the service is great!

2. Sanaa. The view of the Savannah and the ambiance are awesome, and the food is great!

3. Boma. I was extremely disappointed in this. It gets so crowded and loud which really takes away from the experience. I also do not think the food is very good.

As others have said all 3 are very different style restaurants. I LOVE Jiko and would say Jiko hands down but it is a bit pricier ( ok... alot) than the others. Boma is one of our must dos on every trip and we often end up there for several meals each trip. I have a DD11 who insists on eating there.
I have not tried Sanaa but it looks good... but I cant peel myself away from Jiko and Boma.
So you know there are plenty of places to view the animals at AKL outside of the restaurants so you can explore the lodge before or after your meal. Its a very very pretty lodge with lots to see .

I think they're all wonderful in their own ways, and they're different price levels and experience so it's hard to compare the 3.

If you want a buffet, and the cheapest option, go with Boma.

I like the ambiance, decor, and view at Sanaa the best. The food is excellent, especially for the price. It's the best non-signature Disney restaurant I've been to.

Jiko is the best food of the 3, but it's expensive. Totally worth it IMO.
