Boma or Kona for dinner?

We have eaten at Kona and enjoyed it. We are interested in trying Boma, but the offerings seem a little unsual from what we are used to. Any thoughts on this? Oh, we will also be dining with a 3 and 4 year old!

With a 3 & 4yo and you are staying at the GF -Kona offers a good dinner with great ease (walk, monorail or water launch). Expect kids to most likely eat light but entice them with a Kona dessert offering...this should make them excited. A special trip down to AKL-Boma from the GF, waiting for a table (crowded and loud wait area), dining time and the trip back you could see your kids falling a sleep or getting kranky.

If you are wanting to go to the AKL for dinner I would suggest Jiko over Boma, but if it is just between Kona (TS) or Boma (Noisy Buffet) we would select Kona based upon our experiences (food offerings/quality, service and atmosphere).

I would take Boma over Kona for sure. Kona is fun but the Poly lobby is very loud especially because of all the people waiting to get into O'Hana.

Boma's waiting area is loud also but very interesting with the water element there and it's a buffet. The kids part of the buffet has spaghetti, mac and cheese and a few other things. Plus there are plenty of hot veggies, cold salads and fruit. Lots of good things for kids. Plus the dessert part of the buffet is terrific!

It's less then a 20 minute drive from the Poly to AKL and the kids can see the animals on the savannah before or after dinner. If it's dark there are night vision goggles they can use to see them. Plus there is story telling around the fire around dark. So lots of cool things for kids to do.

The last time we ate at Kona for dinner we weren't very happy with the food. We love it for breakfast--not so much for dinner.

Let me know if this changes the dynamics at all....I was planning this meal on an AK park day. We would do an early dinner at Boma around 5'ish after the park closes....Or go back to the GF and then do dinner at Kona around 7'ish.

I love Boma and so did my 2yr old neice! They have great food for adults and your usual kids buffet food. The desserts are so tasty!!!! If you go you must try the Zebra Domes

We think both are great. Since you've already tried Kona, and since you'll be in the AK area, I'd say go to Boma this time. Another benefit when dining with kids at a buffet is that you can get them some food right away, instead of waiting for items ordered from the menu.

it doesn't hurt to try! i think boma has some unusal things on their menu but i'm willing to give it a go as many people have said its good. the thing with a buffet is that at least it doesn't pin you down to one choice. if you don't like something just go up and give it a go.

i don't have children but from the looks of things they don't get much choice let alone a healthy one. so it might be nice to give them a few veggies and food that doesn't look like chicken nuggets!

It would be a quick trip by bus from the Animal Kingdom Park to the Animal Kingdom Lodge. I haven't tried Kona, but I think Boma is great! You should definitely check it out. We have not been disappointed there - even with picky children and food allergies!

If you're taking the bus, it depends on the wait for the bus. The actual drive time is about 5 minutes. AKL is right next to the park. If you're spending the day at AK, leave a bit before park closing so you're not in the crowds. I would give it about 30 minutes, and if you're early you can check out the animals at the hotel to kill time.

We arrived for our dinner quite early last time we went. We had a great time checking out the animals and also, the Story Teller was right outside the entrance to where the animals are. We got a great spot and really enjoyed that before dinner! He was really great! It was a nice relaxing evening!

Since you've been to Kona, I would try Boma (we've been to both and they are both awesome ). Boma does have things that are "different", but there are many "normal" offerings as well . They even have a kids section of chicken fingers, french fries, mac & cheese, etc. I have a picky teen and he LOVES Boma. The prime rib is fantastic.....my DH and youngest DS can't ever get enough prime rib when we go . And the zebra domes are SOOOO GOOD......make sure you give those a try . Have a great trip .

I think you'll like it. We were hesitant at first, but we ended up loving it as it has so much variety that even the pickiest of eaters can find something to eat . My oldest DS is VERY picky.....and he couldn't stop eating .

You have convinced me to keep my Boma dinner ADR? Are the menu offerings the same on Friday and Sat nights?? I have FRI right now but was going to switch to SATURDAY if possible. We are planning AK for SATURDAY.

You won't be disappointed!!!!! And I apologize, but I am not really sure about the menu offerings . I want to say they are the same as we've eaten there on a few occasions different nights of the week and we have always had prime rib as one of the main meats....and everything else seemed familiar as well. I guess I never really paid much attention . But if they do change, I would think Friday/Saturday nights would be about the same.....atleast for the main items. Enjoy .
