If you had to choose between the 2, which would you pick. We have 2 nites concierge booked at AKL so will have a sampling of some of the different foods. We are a family of 5 (myself, DH, DD9,DS9,DS14). This is our first trip to Disney, and just wondering what other people would choose as the priority for a place to eat at AKL.

I've never been to Boma, but we eat at Jiko's almost every trip. Its a great restaurant, but I have read great things about Boma too.

We have never eaten at Jiko but have been to Boma twice. In fact we were there just this past weekend. We loved it the first time we went in April and had to return to make sure it wasn't a fluke. We find the restaurant very attractive and comfortable. The staff is well trained and friendly.. The food is absolutely delicious. I have heard negative comments about the food but I am convinced these are from people who do not like to try new things. If you believe that ribs can only be made one way, do not go to Boma. Their way is different...but delicious. They have several unusual soups and grain dishes (like hummus and cous cous) and great desserts. For the kids who may not be as adventurous, there is a kids bar with chicken fingers, macaroni and cheese, etc.

I am sure that Jiko is a lovely restaurant and hope to try it some day, buy I can recommend Boma without hesitation.

Since it will be your first time, I'd go with Boma. Since it's buffet, you can sample a little of everything. I went in August and loved it. I originally planned on going again on my next trip, but decided to do Jiko instead mainly because I'm going to so many other buffets (character meals with DD4) that I decided I wanted 1 sit-down meal with a menu. I don't think you can go wrong with either one. You could do both, or do Jiko for dinner and Boma for breakfast one morning.

We have eaten at both restaurants, and while I liked both, I preferred Jiko. The food, service and ambience were all excellent!
I would say that your choice depends on whether you would prefer a buffet, or sit-down experience. Have fun choosing!

I would absolutely go with Bomas being that it's your first trip. Jiko is a wonderful restaurant, but Bomas is a special experience. Our kids' are about the same ages as yours, and they all loved Bomas...as did my wife and I.
To this day it remains one of our favorite restaurant experiences in all of Disney.
Have fun whatever you choose!

I have been to both but with teenagers not young chidren. they loved both but they liked boma better. and since it will be the first time i would go to BOMA!
i love jiko myself more, but for some reason with the way the room is set up it can actually be noiser than the buffet area
and actually seems to amplify others conversations.

we went early and we go just after the new year so it was pretty empty when we got to jiko. and didnt notice the noise til about half way through dinner.

Never been to Boma's becuase we're not much for buffets, but it always gets great reviews. We are Jiko people and have visited every years since it opened. We love it.

I have eaten at both and would definatley eat at Boma. It is wonderful and I can't wait to go back in Feb.

We HATED Jiko. The atmosphere is dark and strark. The service was terrible and food was rather bland. We felt totally ripped off.

Go and enjoy Boma everyone will be happy.

Jiko is our favorite restaurant at WDW. Great and unusual food, a super wine list and a lovely restaurant. Never had a bad meal there and the service has always been top notch. We have taken our girls there several times ands they are very welcome there.

We don't like buffets, so we are not fans of Boma. We tried it once and were less than impressed.

I have been to Boma's 3 times now (working on my 4th time a week from this Friday!!) We love Bomas. Everything is absolutely scrumptious and tasty. I wouldn't miss it for anything!! I'm drooling thinking about it. Save room for the deserts too. Even my husband who isn't a desert after dinner kind of guy loves to have desert here.

You might want to think about trying Boma for breakfast. Their Frunch is really good (Frunch is a kind of breakfast juice of several types mixed together).

We're not staying at AKL this time in December we're going, but have 3 reservations for there for breakfast. We'd be happy eating there every day. It's also much less expensive for breakfast than dinner would be and has some American food as well for picky eaters.

Never been to Jiko. Husband and I both like Boma. It's fun to try the different foods and I remember there being normal food too so if you didn't like the different you could still eat something. My husband dreams about this place and was upset we didn't have time to go on our last trip.

Jiko is a must on our trips, but the food might not be the best choice for you kids. We like it because we can eat thing we usually don't come across (butternut squash soup comes to mind).

We have only been to Boma for breakfast. It is outstaning. The juice is the best.

We just got back and ate at both (with kids ages 8 & 10). Both were wonderful experiences but very different. I did dining reviews of both on this board. If you check them out, you might get a better idea of type of food, service and atmosphere...

We've dined at both and love each of them, but if we were dining with kids, we'd choose Boma. There may be more variety for kids there.

You've certainly given me lots to think about. I'm leaning towards Boma at this time. Who knows, maybe we'll do both!:D
