What would you suggest for a dinner, Boma or Jiko? I'll have DH and 3 DS ages 6,4,2. And do eitehr of them serve lunch?

I could be mistaken, but I believe Jiko is only open for dinner and Boma is open for breakfast and dinner.

Boma has a variety of things on the buffet which would appeal even to picky eaters. I haven't yet been to Jiko, but I assume that they have the standard kids fare of chicken nuggets and mac-n-cheese.

We've been to Boma several times for breakfast and dinner and have never been disappointed.

I would definitely vote for Boma over Jiko for your Family. While they are both VERY yummy, Boma is a buffet with Lots of variety (incl. a station with "kid-friendly" choices - nuggets, spaghetti, etc.) and Jiko is an upscale adult-oriented restaurant (Yes, they have a children's menu- and yes, you can take your kids there, but you will see alot of couples having a quiet romantic dinner- and I don't know about you- but when I go to places like that with my 3 yo, I spend most of my time trying to keep him from disturbing the other diners- and hence I don't really enjoy my meal as much as I should). Plus with Boma, you get to try all sorts of different foods- and the dessert choices are out of this world (and you can try one of everything if you so desire!). Jill

I think it really depends on what you are looking for. Neither are open for lunch, which was already pointed out. Jiko is definately more upscale. We have only one child...who also happens to like "fancy" places so we prefer Jiko. Boma is a more upscale buffet....and w/ 3 kids I think I might there.... it is more casual and the food is very good. That way everyone would be pleased.

I agree that it depends on your children. With three children those ages serving them from a buffet isn't exactly relaxing to me. However there is a great variety.

If your little ones will enjoy sitting for a while and having a good meal, I might pick Jiko's. They do have a children's menu but it is not typical chicken nuggets and hamburgers so be sure to check it out.

When DH and I had dinner at Jiko I think there was only one child in the restaurant, and he was around 10 or 11. Our two (5 & 8 at the time) were being entertained in one of the children's clubs and I was glad to not have to worry about their behaviour.

I think Boma is a much more family oriented restaurant. Things are much more relaxed and we've all enjoyed both the dinner buffet and the breakfast buffet a few times. While we enjoyed our Jiko meal, the variety of offerings on the buffet appeals more to me. Since we have to get a quick fix at AKL on our next trip, Boma will be our hands down choice for dinner.
