Boma or Jiko

Big bobotie fan myself, although my wife makes it better. Not usually a buffet fan but Boma is the exception.
Mrs wabbott's bootie is good, too. I think because she bakes it in a deep dish and it is more moist. We've not perfected the zebra domes yet.

Both are good options. I would look t the menu for Jiko and see if there are things your kids will eat. As a buffet, Boma has many more options for picky eaters. When we dine at Jiko, we are there about 2 hours. You know how your 4 yo will do at a longer meal.

The one thing holding me back with Boma is the 12 year old will be charged the adult buffet price and I know she will not eat that much food.
To me, this suggests that the adults will just have to eat more to make up for the kids.;)

My wife was born in South Africa so bobotie is in her blood. :)

I cannot believe that until 2019 (I was 69 that year) that I had never heard of the dish, let alone tasted any. One of my old men's group coffee buddies had gone to WDW for the first time in February of that year and came back raving about this "stuff that looked kinda like cornbread dressing" and was "throw-down good," to use a local saying. We looked up a pic online and he agreed that it was indeed bobotie. I went home and asked mrs. wabbott to make me some, and it turned out good. So when we ate there in April of 2019, I told her that she duplicated it closely. I think they bake their bobotie in a large black iron skillet, so its a bit thinner and drier. Either way, I'm really glad to have discovered it and I've had the wife make it several times.

Has she ever made it with pork? IIRC, Boma's recipe uses lamb. We always make our homemade with ground beef, but I want to try pork.

You don't go to any restaurants that don't have bobotie or zebra domes?
Oh yes, we go all over WDW to dine. But the question was to choose between Boma or Jiko. In 2021, Boma had not reopened, so we had to settle for Sanaa. We liked it, but not as much as Boma. I'm sure we'll try Jiko one day, but Boma is still my go-to place.

If you can get an ADR for Jiko, definitely go there.

We like signature restaurants, but, Jiko is the only one we haven't been able to get a reservation for. It seems like nobody ever cancels there.

Ground beef only. Lamb sounds interesting. Pork not a first choice for my Jewish wife. :)

I've only been to Boma once and only for breakfast, but despite all the glowing reviews, I was super not impressed. I was expecting a wide variety of African food with a few "classic" buffet foods. Instead, I think that there were maybe 2 rice dishes that were "African-inspired" and then just a bunch of typical Golden Corral-type food.

Also, it's loud and the line to the buffet was long the entire time we were there.

It was easily the worst ADR of our trip last week.

I haven't tried Jiko, but probably will next time.

Jiko has become one of my favorite meals on property. It’s a much different experience than Boma. Jiko is More sit down while Boma is a buffet. Food is great at both in my opinion just depends on what type of experience your wanting

Once upon a time I would have said Jiko but it isn’t what it used to be food is much blander and choice much more limited. I’d pick boma
I had dinner there last night and I would have to respectfully disagree with your assessment. I found my meal to be excellent. I had the filet and found they did it better than CG.

I mean there is nothing wrong with it but it just isn’t what it was 8 years ago. They used to have such unique flavours and fantastic flatbreads whereas now you go for a steak which is a nice steak but a meal you could get anywhere else

Though I dd order the steak as the entree I also had Spiced Brussels Sprouts & Dukka-dusted Broccolini as my sides. Since I was sitting at the preparation / cooking area the server even provided me with a small Jiko Salad - Quinoa, Radish, Petite Vegetables, Seasonal Fruit, Pomegranate, Tangy Cashew Cheese, Lemon-Ginger Vinaigrette (Plant-based).

The entire meal was full of unique flavors. Everything was prepared so well that no additional seasoning was needed - the same as I have experienced at CG. I even commented to the server that the filet was done better than at CG and she responded that the two restaurants have a friendly rivalry :).

If your kid is picky like mine, I'd check the menu for Jiko then decide. We LOVE Boma!

I’d review the Jiko menu with your 12 year old and see if there I’d anything she will eat! My niece, slightly older, would go hungry there, but is looking forward to Boma. I’m also not looking forward to paying the adult price for a kid still eating very much like a kid, but I guess that’s life. We are doing lots of QS this trip and I suspect at those she will order off the kids menu, but we’ve got a couple buffets/prizes fixe and it’s gonna stink paying the adult price for her.
