Going to AK for evening EMH and was trying to decide between Boma or Jiko for dinner afterwards. It will be me, DH, Dd 9, and Dd 6. The little one is the only picky eater in the bunch. We are getting a late start this day(sleeping in) and would like to check out AKL for the christmas decorations after we hit the park.

we went to both and we liked Jiko. My son (who is picky) liked Jiko better. He ate Grilled chicken and the veggies...he does not eat mash potatoes so they gave him french fries.

I'd pick Boma. I think it's better for familys and a more upbeat atmosphere.

IMO you can't go wrong with the food at either one.

I would be thinking about what kind of meal you would want to have at the end of the day. Do you want to deal with more lines at a buffet? The up and down, back and forth action that is buffet dining?

Or would you prefer to just sit yourself down and be served.

Can you tell that this body would prefer to be served at the end of the day?:rotfl2:

Seriously though, been to both, you can't go wrong with either. Both have some selections that are more American like or more African like. Both are worth experiencing. Whichever one you don't do this time, think that you might do next time and don't stress it.

Hope you have a great meal either way!

It also, in my opinion, depends on how the DD's handle themselves at nicer places. If they are the types who tend to get a little on the roudy side, I would suggest Boma. If they are very well bahaved, and you want a very nice meal, I'd go with Jiko. It is one of our favorites (the ostrich app may be the best thing I have ever eaten).

We liked Jiko much more than Boma (and I really wanted to like Boma, too!).

It was above-average buffet food, but still buffet food. And everything tasted like cinnamon.

Jiko, on the other hand, was absolutely fantastic.

They are both great but I would go for Boma with kids just because with the large buffet, they have a lot of choices, along with some new items if they want to try something they wouldn't get back home. If not, there are plenty of familiar items for them to chose from.

I've eaten everywhere....except Via Napoli...but i claim exception on that one...

and I would put Jiko as second best overall behind V&A's...with several others close behind.

Boma has also been a favorite since we first ate there...the day it opened.

tough call...but not a bad dilemna to "suffer" through:banana:

Boma. We don't typically love buffets, but we loved Boma.

Jiko has disappointed us several times. It is also IMO a very adult-ish restaurant. It's not overrun with kids. It's dark and stylish and upscale. It's actually a gorgeous dining room. The entrees have routinely been disappointing, though.

Regarding the "up and down" buffet thing mentioned by a previous poster: we didn't find this to be an issue at Boma. It never felt packed to the gills like Crystal Palace. I didn't feel like I had to fight for my food (which has been the case as some buffets). Sure, you have to get up to go get your food, but it's pretty easygoing.

You will LOVE exploring AKL! It's gorgeous! Look into the kids' activities there. We took advantage of several of them, and my daughter LOVED them!
