I'm trying to decide between Boma and Jiko. This is the ADR that I'm most on the fence about, please help me decide!

It's me, DH, DS (14), and DD (12). I've looked over the menu and there are things on the Jiko menu that appeal to me, the filet looks good as well as the maize crusted sturgeon. Some of the pictures I've seen on the food thread at Boma look, well, interesting.

Also would be interested in knowing what you liked about either restaurant. What do you order?

I'm not at all familiar with African influenced cuisine, what kind of spices are commonly used in the cooking? Are most dishes on the spicy side?

Thanks!

I haven't eaten at Jiko, but DH and I really enjoyed Boma. So much so, we booked a 2nd ADR while at WDW.

As for the kind of food you'll find, peruse some recipes here to get an idea of what's in them: http://allearsnet.com/din/rec.htm

Some African food can be spicy (there's an Ethiopian restaurant in my city where the food is hot hot hot) but at Boma there wasn't anything with a lot of heat. Everything was mild in that respect. It seemed more on the North African/Mediterranean side, with things like falafel and couscous.

They are both excellent choices. They each have a few spicy items or sauces but there's pleny of non-spicy stuff. When describing the menu the waiter at Jiko was careful to point out the item that was spicy.

Jiko is a wonderful experience, and if you think your kids would appreciate fine dining, go for it! The service is a bit less rushed than your typical Disney restaurant and the wait staff is the best!

Our favorite items at Boma are the soups - Butternut Squash, Curried Seafood Stew, Carrot Ginger, Mulligatawney. The roasted meats are always good, too, prime rib, rotiserrie chicken.

At Jiko the chicken flatbread, mushroom filet and pistacio creme brule were incredible.

Boma and Jiko offer two different dining experiences (both excellent, by the way). Jiko is a bit more upscale and has a dress code.

Boma is a buffet with a wide array of selections. Even the most picky eater can find something to eat there. We're back in the world this fall and have Boma ADR's this time.:sunny:
