We have eaten at Boma and really liked the food. It was original and well prepared and the atmosphere was really nice...and the wine is wonderful! I can't attest to how "authentic" it is...and we have ADR's for Jiko in October and I am really looking forward to that.
we have dined at jiko many times and it is one our favorites. prefer it over boma which just was not our "cup of tea." not sure which would be the most authentic, but each does have africian dishes and features wines for africia, maybe south africia. enjoy!
For more authentic, I would go with Jiko. Yes, Boma does have some authentic cuisine, but it is a buffet after all, so there are items to please everyone. And the food is buffet quality, you know, warm not hot, etc. Jiko is a top 5 WDW restaurant for me. Everything was incredible. Give it a shot, you will not be disappointed.
We loved Boma!!! We chose it because we weren't sure what to order at Jiko -- we had never tried either restaurant before. Boma is a buffet, so I would guess Jiko's entrees would be better prepared since they are cooked to order. But Boma had a huge selection of things for us to try -- lots of salads, lots of soups, lots of new kinds of dishes we had never seen before.
We're planning to go back, but I'd also now like to try Jiko.
I'm sure you cant go wrong with either one -- but if you're unsure of what to order/whether you'll like it, then I'd choose the buffet.
We stayed and the AKL and ate and loved them both. If I could only pick one I would go with JIKO. It's quieter, excellent South African wine selection and the food taste and presentation was amazing. I thought JIKO was more authentic.
We've eaten at both Boma and Jiko. We've enjoyed both, but their atmosphere is very different. For buffets, Boma offers a tremendous variety, some familiar, some not. A great place for families, since there's something for everyone, but it is usually crowded, and was quite noisy the times we were there.
Jiko's is more intimate, and a lot more "upscale" in decor and menu. We haven't been lucky with good waiters (the best we had was okay, none bad, but none had the Disney spirit), but the food more than made up for it.
You know best what kind of place works for you; either's a good choice.
