I have a ressie booked for Boma for our upcoming trip. We plan to be at Typhoon Lagoon that day. I booked boma thinking by the time we got back from the water park and to our resort (AKL) we'd just wanna relax and not have to rush out to another place to eat. I read the menu, is there normal american food/meat offered? I'm on the fence about it.

What you'll fine on the menus of this site and www.wdwig.com are fairly representative of what you'll find at Boma. If you've never tried it, I always recommend that you do - then you can make up your own mind...and the only way to know if you will like new and different things is to try it! :)

You'll be able to find a few things that you'll recognize at the BOMA buffet, but the flavours of foods (rice, chicken, soups etc) are very different than what we're used to in North America. So if being adventurous with food isn't your thing then you might have a difficult time.

We think its great though, and definitely worth a try.

MY DH hates buffets. He's normally a meat & potato guy but he LOVES Boma.
I would definitely try it especially since you're staying at AKL. There are a lot of food options.

Boma food is VERY different. My husband LOVED it, the rest of us, not so much. There were some foods that were OK.

Another DIS moderator gave me a description on the types of food they serve....she said everything is sweetened, the meat particularly. This is not my cup of tea....i dont like sweetness added to my meat dishes. Which is why i hesitated to try the dinner. HOWEVER, i am very interested in their breakfast! Particularly the scrambled eggs with goat cheese! YUM!

We all really enjoyed Boma and can't wait to go back again. My 11 year old absolutely loved it, and he's a picky eater.
The buffet had a lot of options for any taste so you'll more than likely find things you like. Give it a try for yourself! :)

I booked Boma for our September trip and have been on the fence about this ADR only right from the beginning. Last night I read the other thread about Boma and finally decided to change it. I would not enjoy my food if the overwhelming majority of the food is seasoned with cinnamon (or unsual flavours/spices) or the majority of the meat is sweet. I don't feel like trying to find a select few items that will appeal either.

I thnik if you are generally adventurous then it might be okay. If not, I'd try and find something else.

we used to love Boma's but now they put cinnamon through EVERYTHING we really do not like it.:confused3 Mind you when we complained that we didn't like a thing they sent a chef out and he made us the most wonderful and exciting food we have ever had at disney and seemed to really enjoy doing it as it allowed him to be creative on a small scale instead of making bucket loads of the same dishes over and over again. But we still have not been back since as we know we can't expect them to do that just for us everytime. So just make sure you LOVE cinnamon and you will be ok and will enjoy it.

We ate at Boma and loved it. Everyone has different tastes, so its impossible to say whether or not your family will enjoy it.

Personally, I didn't find the food to be "very different" or offensively spiced.

Agree. :thumbsup2

We loved Boma and is the only one that is a definate on our next trip.

I think we are gonna change. I know it may sound petty, but we are paying OOP and I hate to pay $75.00 for a meal that I;m gonna hate. we may just QS dinner that night....thank all.

I have been on the fence about this ADR as well, but have come to realize there are people that LOVE LOVE LOVE a place and others that hate it with the same passion.

I think I am going to keep mine, but am still apprehensive as I have been with all the other ADRs I have as well :rotfl:

I can't wait to go and form my own opinion :)

We are a meat and potatoes family and we did NOT like Boma.

As said above, they put cinnamon, vanilla or fruit flavors in every dish.

DH and I sampled everything that night and the only thing that was "american" was the nuggets and mac/cheese on the kids station.

The beef that night along with the chicken were rubbed in cinnamon, the soups...honestly every dish had sweet flavors in them.

We left unhappy and an hour later had to have CS.

Now not saying the food wasn't good, just not for us.

Now you make me want to cancel too :rotfl2:

I better get another ADR in case I change my mind.

Make sure you decide on one ADR because one will get cancelled if you have two.

Sometimes you need to take a chance. You may be missing out on something you would LOVE. I went back and forth on our ADR's before we went and there were restaurants that are soooo popular on here that we thought how and why?? lol and others that werent so popular that we loved? So look at a menu and if you think you would at least like it then try it!

I personally loved the salads, pasta salads, and hummus Boma had also the dipping sauces for the meats they had. I had never had falafel and found it yummy! Not to mention great desserts!

Well I canceled... booked another ADR... cancelled that one and went back to BOMA :rotfl: I know I am crazy and indecisive!

I think I will stay at BOMA now for good :):rotfl2:

Boma is awesome. There is traditional american food. The best part though is you can take little samples of the more interesting food. Lots of it sounds or looks very strange, but really isn't that different from some foods you may be familiar with. The bobotie for example. Odd name, but really just an egg casserole.

We went to Boma on our last trip and I will be the first to admit I was very hesitant about going. I love different seasonings and spices, but had no experience with African inspired foods. But a friend of mine raved about it being the best meal they had on their trip. So I decided to take a chance and made the reservation.

It was the best meal of our trip and one of two that we're returning to on the upcoming trip. So glad we did it.

It was fabulous. I loved the tamarind BBQ sauce they had after the carving stations, and the the pistachio crusted salmon was to die for. As well as the banana bread pudding. I can't wait to go back!
