Boma on arrival day?

We are planning to arrive on September 7 between 1-2 p.m. at AKL for six nights. I have Boma reserved for 7:20 on arrival day, as I don't want to leave the lodge that day to let the kids relax and swim after our long drive. Now I'm second guessing making an arrival day reservation? Do you usually make arrival day reservations? Also, if I don't make a ressie do you think we would be able to just do a walk-up at Boma that evening or with FD will it be impossible? Thoughts? Thanks!

We always make a ressie for day of arrival. It is a great way to jump right into the vacation. I would keep the reservation for Boma. It is a popular place. Why risk not getting in if you want to eat there?

We went to Boma as a walk-up for dinner about the same time during the 4th of July week and only had to wait about 20minutes to get in. I can't speak on how the crowds are during FD but I would imagine they would be relatively close to the crowds that would be there during a busy time like the 4th.

My personal opinion would be to just keep the reservation if you've already made it.

I love an arrival reservation. It makes you feel truly "there" without the added pressure of hightailing it to a park afterward. I usually do a reservation for dinner, and then just pool or whatever afterward.
