Okay so here is the deal - I am the most adventurous try anything 3 times eater in the world and I LOVE variety and new flavors. DBF is the exact opposite - I am talking basic beef, chicken, pork, hamburgers with no sauces, buns, bread, cheese, wierd stuff on top WELL DONE to the point of hockey puck. Baked or mashed potatoes with NO gravy, cheese, garlic, wierd stuff. Green beans, carrots, green salad or broccoli again with none of the above additions. NO soups, pasta, rice, sandwiches, fish, combinations, anything touching each other. I swear this 31 year old man eats like a whiny 4 year old!!! But I love him and want to make sure he is happy with our food choices while on vacation.

I made ressies for Boma for our first night since it is fairly close to the ASMu resort where we are staying thinking there would be enough there that even he could make do (plus I REALLY want to try those Zebra Domes!!) but now reading more reviews and pictures I am second guessing that choice. So from others experiences with the Boma selections what do you think? Will it be possible for my insanely picky guy to eat at Boma and not leaving starving and/or annoyed or should I try for ADR's somewhere else (keeping in mind this rez is for September 25th which means I don't know how much luck I will have finding somewhere else on the free dining plan). Please give me some help and insight!! Thanks Dis'ers :)

When we were there there was some pretty plain , flavorless roast beef :thumbsup2

My dh is the one in the family who loves 'stuff' with his food. The more sauces the better!! I, on the other hand, like very plain food. Dd, almost 13 now, is very 'discriminating' in her eating habits..mac and cheese, hot dots, cheeseburgers, chicken nuggets. We love Boma. There is plenty for dh to try out, there are plenty of plain type things for me (lots of nice roasted meats and veggies) and my dd can eat all her chicken nuggets to her hearts content. It's the one place we have to eat on every trip. And can we talk about that butternut squash soup??!!!! I'm not a big soup eater but this one is pure heaven!!!

I've never eaten at Boma, but I love African food.

My in-laws are very, very picky eaters. They're a family of four (two kids, two adults), and all they eat are burgers, mac & cheese and chicken (plain or fried). The hated Boma and wouldn't even think of Jiko.

He'll be fine, there are lots of plain foods there. Worst comes to worst he can get chicken fingers, fries & spaghetti off the kids section. :)

There are 5 of us in our family. Myself, my wife, 17 year old daughter and twin b/g 10 year old twins. I'll eat almost anything. My wife, though she will eat a steak once in a while, and chicken only a little more, she leans a lot more towards the veggies and salads. My teen loves beef, but not the veggies, but will jump at a ceasar salad. The twins could live on pasta and pizza all day long. My younger daughter will eat chicken fings, but not other kinds of chicken and a little beef. My son loves the veggies, pasta, and oddly hot dogs.

You can find plain foods and fancy foods. You can find some basic foods and some with all sorts of sauces and gravys.

We all walk away full from Boma. We ALL find lots to eat and no one goes hungry. If my picky eaters can be satisfied there, I think anyone can!

Go and enjoy.

As much as we love Boma, I just don't think I would take him there. He could eat prime rib and chicken fingers .. maybe some salad, but that's about it. But .. how is he with dessert??? It's wonderful at Boma

He could just eat desserts! Just kidding, He could go to the kids area. when we where there it was rib nite & the ribs were pretty basic you added your own sauce & I also thought the Prime rib was pretty normal.

Okay - feeling a little bit better. He would be good with the pime rib and ceasar salad. He is so picky that even ribs, chicken fingers, and spaghetti are too exotic for him!! I know - how do we live together (my mother is always asking me!!!). Any other feedback or suggestions on where else to try getting short notice ressies at if you think it would be really out of his league?

Tell him you'll pay him a Disney Dollar for every new food he takes at least 3 bites of! :bitelip:

There will be enough to satisfy him. Certainly in the meat department. My DS has food allergies and couldn't eat any of the starches when at Boma. I phoned ahead and requested a plain baked potato and some steamed carrots or broccoli, and it was ready for us. You might see if they would do the same for you.

When we eat at Boma, my plate is filled with little dabs of exotica. My DHs plate has: salmon; one kind of potoato, and one kind of veggie, with none of it touching. Doesn't look like we visited the same buffet, and we're both happy.

I'm gonna go against the flow and say:

He's not going to find a WHOLE lot to eat that's "plain" in the way you define it. He might be able to find enough to fill up on...maybe...but from the way you describe his eating habits, it might be touch and go. Even the prime rib has an interesting "rub" on it, when it's cooked.

I love Boma's. So does the rest of my family. But, honestly (and I hate to make people worry and second guess themselves on things like this), I think I might consider changing ADR's. And if you REALLY want the zebra domes, do a fly by of the Mara foodcourt at akl. They sell 'em there.

Okay - I made my decision...even the things people were describing as "plain" don't seem like it would be enough to satisfy Mr. Picky and I really want him to have a magical first night dinner (since he is mostly humoring me on this vacation with the promise to do Las Vegas next time). I just called and was able to get 9pm reservations at WCC which I think he will really like. Thanks for the input everyone!!!

I think you made a wise decision. I love Boma, but $26.00 is a lot to pay hoping you will find something he likes.

While I think he will enjoy Whispering Canyon most likely, I'm sort of sorry to hear your reluctance to try Boma. For the price, we find it an excellent deal - since your drink is included with the meal.

My nephew is this sort of eater, and he loves Boma - it's one of the few places on earth where he actually WILL try something slightly different. I'm generally not a huge fan of buffets, but Boma's my exception! One thing that makes Boma nice is that picky eaters can try a small sample of something, You aren't committed to buying a $6 bowl of soup, you can try a small teaspoon of soup - or anything else. I can also second that if you call ahead they are very accommodating! I fear that you'll have problems throughout your trip satisfying someone with such limited interests at any sit down places. Even WCC has some dishes with sauces and the like. If I were you, I'd call ahead at each place and ask what they can do to meet his needs. Having done the World with a vegetarian, I can tell you, the Dinsey team really went the extra mile for her.

Still, Whispering Canyon has a fun atmosphere too!

While I will be missing Boma terribly and would have loved to go I just know that my DBF is not even the type of eater that will try anything new - At 31 he is pretty set in his ways. He hates all soups, all pastas, all rice, all potatoes with any flavoring in them at all, anything that is a combination of 2 or more different foods, the list goes on. Fortunately I am very well versed in his tastes at this point and he will trust me to order or suggest things for him within reason so I am confident about where I made reservations. I mentioned the change to him tonight and he was thrilled and agreed with me that the first night is a big tonesetter for the vacation and to have gone to Boma and been disappointed or even not quite satisfied would have made him reluctant the rest of the week. So I will save Boma and the other fun, exotic restaurants for when I do a girls trip with my adventorous friends and let my guy enjoy meat, corn, milkshakes, and more plain good old meat! Thank you everyone for the insight - it realy helped...Even people who reccomended it and gave their reasons why convinced me that it just wasn't right for us (okay, well HIM). Just another reason to go back in my opinion!!!
