Is Boma good? Is it really worth leaving the park. My res is at 6:30 will I see animals while I eat or after? What do they have there? I love prime rib and am skipping Crystal Palace this trip will I be happy here?

What time of year are you going....after dinner may be too dark. If the weather is good, they often have night vision goggles, but it isn't the same. I'd plan on both before and after dinner.

Is it worth leaving the park - I didn't like it, other people love it. Would be one of the last restaurants I'd return to unless I was staying at AKL (I'd go back if I were staying there), but other folks go every trip.

You love prime rib - other people love Boma's, I thought it was decent buffet prime rib - nothing to write home about.

What do they have: The menu changes a lot and has 80 some items most night. Lots of salads and couscous. A fish dish, and a meat dish (not always prime rib, someone has, I believe a menu schedule). Desserts. Couscous and hummus. A few odder African type dishes I hadn't come across before (Bobatie - an egg hotdish - is really good, FuFu - which I recall as being a sweetened potato dish - was also good). Soups were, for me, the highlight of the buffet - the soups were very good. A large pod of "kids food" that adults are welcome to - including chicken fingers and mac n cheese - if you aren't adventerous.

My family would have to agree about Boma's. You either like it or not. We did not care for it. A few things were good, but not enough to get us to go back.

My son was all hyped about going to eat "African Food". But he quickly decided he would have preferred something different after a few bites.

We love Boma! The food is wonderful! The prime rib is very nice. The soups are also great. and the desserts .. yummy! A trip to WDW is not complete without a zebra dome. Some of my favorites are the peanut rice, hummas and potatoes with Afritude. DD loves the mac and cheese from the kids' bar.

The service is very good and the staff are all friendly. Sometimes you have to wait past your ADR time, which I don't like, but the lounge is comfy and within beeper range.

There are nice public spots to view the animals. I agree with the poster above that daylight is best for this, but you can use the goggles. Be sure to take some time to wander around the resort. It is just beauitful ..full of African art and artifacts. The gift shop is the best on WDW property. You have to go in there!

we also love boma! we always eat at the top notch manhattan restaurants and it is yet to disappoint! wonderful ambience, great food selection (including the prime rib) and wonderful dessert. Arrive a little early and get a great view of the animals and after dinner take a stroll and watch animals as well for a completely different experience with night time gogles!

We are going Sep 28. Our res time is 5:00 I thought this is the time they are bringing the animals off of the ak site so we may see them at the lodge.

Actually the park and the lodge each have their own animals. So you have a chance of seeing them pretty much anytime of the day or night, depending on feeding/care schedules or the animal's mood. Daytime is a much better time to be try to see them, so you may want to take extra time beforehand just in case it's dark by the time you're done. If you don't see any from Arusha Rock (the main viewing area) take a walk around the resort to check out the other two savannahs. It's a bit of a walk but sometimes the best place to catch them is from the stairwells at the ends of each wing/section.

Boma's was one of our favorites! So many dishes to choose from and not enough room in my tummy! You must try the ginger carrot soup and the bobotie, they are delicious!

We went in July and got there around 5:15 which was plenty of time to view the savanah's before our 6:00 ADR.

It's on our list for our next WDW trip!

We love Boma and go every trip. Even my 2 year old can eat the regular food not the kiddie food. The menu varies. I have been to many buffets at disney and this is one of the best. You can see the animals all over the lodge and if it is dark they will give you night vision goggles at arusha rock overlook. You cant see the animals from the restaurant if that is what you were wondering. Why not look at the menu and see if it is for you.

We love Boma and absolutely feel it's worth leaving a park for. The prime rib is good; the sauces you can choose from for the prime rib are sooooo good, especially the tamarind BBQ. We LOVE the soups; the chicken pepperpot, the squash, the corn chowder...wow. The desserts: to die for.
Some people don't care for it. We LOVE it.
Also, we have always had good service. Last time we ate there, a chef came out and talked with our DGD age 2 for the longest time! He brought her two little containers of gummy candies. She loved it!

Couple things:

1) You won't see animals WHILE you're actually eating. Boma's windows look out at the pool area, not one of the savannah's. While you're there, though, you can visit one of the public viewing areas (Arusha rock, couple of spots out by the pool, etc) to view the animals. Given it'll be late september, you might want to arrive early and look around. Then, after you eat, if it's still light you can go out and look some more.

2) As far as I know, the prime rib is ALWAYS on the buffet. We've eaten there numerous times, different nights of the week, and it's always there. I've likewise heard from other guests the exact same thing. Nobody I've spoken too, in depth, about eating there has evern NOT had the prime rib on the buffet.

Boma is a great place to eat - it is my favorite of all of the restaurants!! We just went this past August and had reservations for 7. After that, we ventured outside to see the animals & we did! There are giraffes, zebras, cattle, and birds (I forgot what they are called) - and if you don't know what something is, there is always an animal expert out there to help you.
