BOG: Why order ahead?

Hi! We've never been to Be Our Guest and got lunch ADR's for our stay. I see that you can order your food ahead. What would be the advantage of this? Just saving time in the restaurant? Or would we be skipping waiting in big LINE to order our food. Just don't know how the setup works. I would think once we are in there, that we would want some time to relax and gaze around. But if the advance order saves a line, I'm all for it!

If you do order ahead, what's the procedure when you go in the restaurant? Do you have to wait in line anyway to pay?

Thanks!
TS

I've ordered ahead twice. Both times we were sent into different lines than those who needed to order. However, both times our orders were lost and we had to re-order anyway. So, I have no idea if it actually saves time.

If you pre-order is it saved to your Magic Band?

This was our experience too. But, the line of people who had already ordered (the line we were sent to) was way shorter than the line of people who hadn't ordered. It was pretty quick to order again. I think that when we go this summer we will pre-order again.

We preordered our food for our visit in January. It did save time. We checked into the restaurant, they reviewed our order and asked if we wanted to make any changes. We said "no"." We walked into the restaurant, passed the line of people ordering their food, found a table to sit at, and about 10 minutes later our food arrived. I asked how they found us, and they said "Disney Magic." I am guessing they found us with our magic bands. I don't remember when we paid. Since you have the opportunity to change your order, there really is no reason not to preorder.

The first time I used it they did lose my order. So I had to get in the order line. But last October they had it and it was very quick. They just scanned my magic band at the door, handed me my receipt and I went to find a table. Food came quick.

On our trip in October we pre-ordered and still had to wait in a long line, which was slightly shorter than the other line. We still had to confirm our order at a kiosk and the whole process from arriving to receiving our food was about 45 minutes, but I think it actually did save us some time. Other people report it going very smoothly and much quicker, I am hoping for that this fall.

Not sure how it will change with the new reservation process, but when we pre-ordered we went into a much shorter line to review and ok our order then went in to sit. The people without a preorder had a long line for the order kiosks. Once in, you can taje your time selecting a seat or takinh a look around after you eat. The disney magic does require at least one magic band in your party to be at your table in order for your food to arrive.

In Dec. 2013 we pre-ordered but the order was lost and we had to go through the kiosk route (took about 20mins to get through the line and order our food.

In October 2014 we pre-ordered and it worked out perfectly. We arrived. Went down a separate line, confirmed our order and on to a table. Five mins max.

If you've never seen the men-in-armor it's neat to stand in the ordering line and look at them (hidden Mickey on the blade of the axe on the last one on the right). Otherwise, it's awesome to bypass the ordering line.

I am glad we preordered because people at the kiosks were SLOW!! They have no idea how to work the screen and they wait until the very last minute to figure out what they want to eat when they've been standing there with a menu right in front of them. So preordering bypassed that whole mess.

Now that the Test phase is over I am hoping that all the pre-orders will be there unlike the ones lost before.

Thank you all so much for sharing your experiences. It definitely sounds like pre ordering is the way to go. Any chance to save a line is great, too! Sometimes waiting in those counter service lines can be so frustrating, especially when people don't seem to know their order when it is their turn!

I know this is totally off topic but I could not help myself. Your pugs are soooo adorable and I love their names. I had a pug for 11 years and I miss her. There is something so special about a pug. pug:

when pre-ordering lunch do you get much time to take a look around the different rooms either before or after your meal?

Question about pre-ordering: My son is traveling with our and has a separate room res. All of us are on the dinning plan. I have him linked on my MDE. If I pre-order his lunch can he use his magic band to pay? Also, when pre-ordering can you customize your order (like hold the mayo)?

Can someone tell me where you go to preorder the food? I have a lunch reservation for next Tuesday and must be overlooking where to preorder.
Thanks

I think it would be on the MDE site, my itinerary, BOG lunch reservation. Just a guess.

I was going to ask the same thing. No one in my family can just order what's on the menu...it always turns into a scene from "When Harry Met Sally". :D

I'm picky as well. I just pre-ordered mine & noticed that the sandwiches all have options to remove the "extra" items (not the bread or meat). I was hoping the braised pork would have an option to not have the gravy poured on it, but it didn't give that option. I may ask when I'm there if they give me the option to change what I ordered.
