I need your expert advise...

My friend and her family are going to Disney the week of 8/23. They are a family of 2 adults and 2 kids, ages 7 and 1. We were discussing ADRs and she mentioned she couldn't get a BOG reservation. I quickly looked for an opening and found one on 8/24 at 11:20am. She logged on and grabbed it.

The problem is that I was searching for a party of 3 because I didn't think the child under 2 was required to be counted. However, I was reading a thread this morning and realize that you have to include them in your ADR number. (I have no idea what I was thinking!)

Anyways, I then found one for a party of 1 at 11:50. I reserved that one in hopes that I can eventually cancel and she will get it. The times are close enough that they could eat together, one adult may just have to wait a few minutes.

However, I have been thinking, I don't think it will allow her to make this reservation because it was say "you already have a reservation at this time, would you like to cancel." Is there a way around this?

Which brings me to wonder...if there is a large family on the same MDE account and 1/2 want to go "here" for lunch and half want to go "there" can you have 2 reservations at the same time?

The easiest way around this is to set up two separate accounts under different names. You can also call and have a CM override the system, but you risk losing the reservation during the time it takes to get through to a CM.

I made ADR's for my extended family a few months back. DSIL family wanted to eat at CRT and my family wanted Biergarten. Through trial and error I found that I had to make DSIL ADR first with her as the lead and then made mine with me as the lead.

Yup! Definitely worth setting up two MDE accounts with two leads to be able to split groups. Spent FOREVER on the phone explaining to CM that I wanted two ressies under my name party of 4 AND party of 2. No problems getting it split, but again, such a hassle!

This is probably a dumb question, but I she were to create a separate MDE account for her husband will his information still show up under her account? Will his Magic Band, Tickets etc, still be under her account also?

Her account would not change, and her husbands info and media would remain. The only thing on the separate account would be dining reservations. Disney won't try to link it or change anything on the other account as it doesn't know the person on the new account is the same person as her husband (many people have the same name). Someone doing this should not link anything else to that separate account.

Wouldn't a second child make this a party of 4? There isn't usually a table made for three people. Instead of making another MDE wouldn't it be easier to call and add them to the reservation?

I feel really dumb for not thinking about that. This whole magic band stuff makes me think it's scanned for anything including ADRs. That makes total sense. Thank you!

I wish calling and adding were that easy. I realize now that the second child would need to be included on the ADRS for various reasons, including fire code.

Perhaps I am confused. You are saying that your friend has 2 children and 2 adults. You made a reservation for a party of 3 then you realized you needed to add 1 and could only get a reservation for 1 about 20 minutes later? However. There is no such thing ( I think) as a table with only three chairs is there? When you make a reservation for 3 you are reserving a table for 4 people and they just take a plate away so if you call they can add the 4th person to the reservation. The way it is now you are holding 2 whole tables, which I don't understand. I have the problem that made a reservation for a party of 2 but then wanted to add a person. This, however, is impossible because it means 3 seats at a table for 2, which is not allowed. I actually need to find an open table of 4 and reserve it then cancel the party of 2.
I think that your friend just needs to call, add the 4th person to the table, then cancel the extra reservation.

Logically that is the way it should work, but unfortunately it isn't. Especially at BOG lunch since it is a QS meal, in which you seat yourself. So during those times they are especially limited to the number of people they are allowed to have in the building. I am pretty sure the ADR system is set up to count both tables and number of people. So if 50 parties of 3 made reservations, 50 tables would be reserved, leaving an extra seat at each table. However, if every one of those parties, or even half of those parties, called and "simply" added the exrta person to the table since it is available, those extra 25 could take them over the fire code.

If you have a reservation for 3, just change it to 4. You can call and they can change it. Don't make a reservation for just 1, if they really are going to be with the 3. Making another reservation, is basically reserving another table. Cancel that one, so someone else that actually has 1-2 people can snag it!

I have the same scenario....we are a party of 3, but could only find 2 adrs...party of 2 and party of 1 at the same time. I called to see if I could just add a person to my party of 2 and they told me there was nothing available....

anyone have any luck having them combine your two ressies into 1 table once you get to the restaurant or at least seating you near each other??
