BOG lunch question

hello! I am taking a friend to WDW for her first time in September to celebrate her 30th birthday. We have planned it a bit close to get reservations. Are reservations a must for lunch at BOG? Would it be possible for us to arrive towards the end of the lunch time and get a table? What are your thoughts/experiences? My family is usually very good about reservations, but since this trip is planned closer, I wasn't able to secure reservations.

They usually don't take walk ups. But keep trying for that ADR. People change their plans all the time. Plus some people do cancel 24 hours before to avoid the no show fees.

I agree with keep checking. I check a few times a day normally and just yesterday was able to get a BOG lunch for Sept. I have been checking for the last couple months. Based on others posts I have read people seem to find times around the 24 hour cancellation time frame and at the time when payment is due for packages (I think 45 or 30 days prior).

Also try looking for overlapping ADRs for 1 person - we did it that way last year when we couldn't get one for 6 people. We had one for 5 and one for 1.

I'm going in Sept too and booked the trip well within the 180 days so some ressies were tough. But I kept trying and yesterday a lunch time for BOG popped up and I had been trying for a while. The app makes it easy too, I would just jump in and see if there's anything.

Thank you everyone! I will keep checking every day! Sounds like there is hope yet! I just checked for 1 person and there are openings, but nothing overlapping. I never thought of that before. She is pretty independent and wouldn't mind dining alone so I made a reservation for just her just in case nothing else comes up. At least then she will get the experience! I will keep on it to try and get the rest of us in too!

If you can get one each within 10 to 15 min. apart you could still probably eat together since they don't sit you.

Walk up - don't plan on it.

I just decided to go the other day end of August, during Free Dining. It took a couple times checking but I got lunch on two days. Keep looking! Folks are always changing.

In April we made a reservation for 1 person but there were 3 of us...we went to the check in stand about 30 min before to tell them we had a reservation for one and if it was okay if there were 3 of us and she said yes no problem! Since there is only 2 of you I'm guessing the reservation for 1 will be fine!

I really wouldn't count on it.

We asked a cast member beforehand and she said that it would be fine; Disney will always try to accommodate you. And considering BoG lunch is open seating, letting 2 people in instead of 1 isn't a big deal. And the crowd level was 9 that day, the reservations were all full. Now if it were a reservation for 1 and there were 5 of you then no I wouldn't expect them to let you in. But it's just 2 of you. They will let you in with a reservation for 1 and I will guarantee you this.
The OP doesn't have any reservation at all.

I was there in the middle of June and tried a walk up, even for lunch they turned me away. I'm sorry but it's a bit nuts for them to require ADR's for quick service. So to answer OP question, all meals at BOG require ADR now. I am really getting turned off by this too. Next we will be doing it for Casey's Corner and pre ordering our hot dogs. Sorry to be a downer, but I'm an old timer and live 3 hours away. I don't know that I am even going 180 days away, never mind where I want to eat and at what time, and who will even be with me for that matter :(

I think they had to because folks were standing for hours just to get inside.

I never stood on line for hours. I had always gotten in in no more than 45 minutes. Actually a lot less of a wait then the attractions ;)

For a while, anyway, that was not the norm. Disney actually had to have umbrellas that guests would pass to each other in the queue to help with the sun. I guess it was a mess.

Definitely keep checking. I just booked yesterday and was able to get BOG. When I first looked there was nothing, within half an hour something opened up. I wasn't crazy about the time, however this morning an earlier lunch time became available.

we had an FP+ for BOG lunch when they were testing that in October 2013, really hot and a VERY long line for standby, they had umbrellas and were handing out bottles of water. When we came out from eating saw that the sky must have opened up with rain, everything was soaked and puddles every where. Felt bad for anyone who waited in the heat and then got drenched in the rain.

It was pretty awful, from what I read. I took my DGD there when it was a soft opening in December 2012. WE had arrived early so our wait time was not bad. I guess it went downhill quickly after that, and the summer of 2013 was a nightmare.
