Has anyone ever booked a time at BOG just for dessert??
We'll be going in May and are on the DDP, but I don't want one of that ADR to count as a QS meal.
There's not a whole lot on the lunch/dinner menu my kids will eat, so I thought if we just went in and got dessert and put it on our snack credits it might work.
Any tips or suggestions? Anyone ever done this?
Thanks!

You would only be able to do that at lunch, because dinner is TS and you won't be able to use snack credits.

That said, there is nothing there I would spend a snack credit on, but if you want to do that, no reason why you can't or shouldn't.

If you just want to experience the restaurant, you could just orders drinks and pay OOP

Are you talking about your entire dinner party ordering desserts? Or just your kids? From a recent thread on here I believe you can't use snack credits dinner, not sure about lunch.

People on here can have very strong opinions about people taking a highly coveted dining reservation for desserts only. Which is why I asked about your whole dining party only ordering desserts. A recent thread about desserts-only at BOG was locked. Personally, my May window opens this week and I'm hoping to get BOG for lunch for 6 people.

Other people's opinions are honestly irrelevant. Can OP do it, as in, will she be allowed to? Yes, and she can also decide what is right for herself & her family.

People are entitled to their opinions, but they are simply that: opinions. Right now BOG breakfast and lunch are CS and guests are not required to order complete meals. Dinner is TS, however there is no minimum so if a guest chooses to order dessert and coffee, etc, that is acceptable.

Disney had the opportunity to manage this restaurant by keeping it a fixed price meal for breakfast and lunch, but chose not to do so from opening day, and hen added cupcakes to the menu to accommodate those who only wanted them. Seems to me that Disney has made the decision regarding minimums, and those "strong opinions matter not.

Just making op aware that she may hear those opinions and that another thread has recently been locked because of similar questions on desserts at BOG.

It can be a very hot topic and people on here have no problem sharing their opinions.

I didn't say she can't do it or comment about her deciding what is right for her family. I stated a fact. Don't be surprised if it escalates.

Just because you *can* do something is honestly irrelevant. It's my opinion that it's rude to take away (1) a hard to get reservation from other diners and (2) the full dinner tip from the server.

My thread was the one that got locked. You can see lots of threads about other restuarants and people doing that, and most people say it's fine. But apparently at BOG, people are so jealous of a reservation that they'll tell you you can do nothing but order food you don't want.

Yes, you can, and feel free to. Disney allows it. Ignore the naysayers if it's what you want to do. And for the record, the Master's Cupcake at lunch is delicious!

The Disney bean counters were too busy wine tasting when they came up with and then didn't follow through on the Prix Fixe menu for BOG. They are losing burlap bags full of money at this popular location .....

because you can order as much or as little as you want, even a 69 cent Mickey Straw. OP, do whatever you want. It actually is a good value for a QS credit but if there is nothing on the menus for you, even kids menus, you are free to get just dessert. But I warn you they are very overpriced small grocery store type cupcakes, nothing special, just cute.

I didn't see anything in that thread about people being jealous or telling you that you, or anyone, can't order what you want. I saw a lot of fair points, including how difficult getting BOG ADRs can be, which is why this is a hot topic.

Bottom line is that you can order what you like. I will be making lunch reservations this week and we will be ordering lunch when we go, IF I can get an ADR.

Agree.

I also agree that the desserts are not that great. I've tasted the masters cupcake and it tasted very grocery store cheap. I've also tasted the grey stuff, lemon raspberry cream puff and strawberry cream cheese cupcake and none of them were great. We stick to meals only at BOG and pick up sweets at other places during the day.

Per Disney policy, OP is allowed to order as much or as little as she pleases.

That is fact, not opinion. I hope you understand better now. :)
I was talking about the part where you determined that other people's opinions are irrelevant. Since it's a discussion board, maybe just let people decide for themselves which opinions are relevant? In a court of law, if you were the judge, it would be up to you to decide what is or is not relevant. This is not that kind of forum. Do you think it's inconceivable that someone might read other people's opinions and decide that, even if they could do something, they shouldn't do it?

True that!

People do this at restaurants all the time. Cafes, high end, whatever. And I can’t say I understand the whole idea of being upset the server misses a dinner tip because I’ve been a server before and sometimes people just order appies or a dessert and coffee - it’s not abonormal or unexpected. :confused3

To me, the reservation system is fair for everyone at 180 days. We all have the same opportunity to make a reservation. Is it really any of our business what anyone else orders? If I order a dinner or full lunch, does that make my experience more worthy of a reservation? Does my willingness to eat more mean that I should be able to experience Beast’s castle over others? Or does my wanting to try the steak trump someone else’s desire to try the grey stuff?

I tend to go for the full meal deal because I am not a small eater ( not at all lol) but I’m not bothered if others don’t. So far I haven’t been able to get a dinner reservation for BOG for my upcoming trip, but I wouldn’t be bothered if everyone there was getting appetizers or dessert. I hope they have just as amazing a time as I did when I had dinner there :thumbsup2

As long as it’s not against the rules, I don’t see the problem.

One issue could be the deserts at bog are small and inexpensive. At many table service restaurants the price of the deserts is in line with the cost of a kids meal. So throw in coffee / tea or a desert wine and you have a substantial bill. Most go to these restaurants because they actually want desert. We do it all the time. Love the banana tart with the crown at Citricos.

what may set some people off is that at bog a table of people may order a just few cupcakes only just to see inside.

And Bog is just such a difficulty ADR. I managed to snag a 9:30 last trip. Way to late to have dinner but a few cupcakes, a few glasses of champagne, and coffee and our we had quite a bill! And a blast.

People should do what they want. As a pp said we All have access to make ADRs.
