We know 2 of the people won't be able to join us for a BOG dinner. I feel guilty keeping a table that a party of 2 may be able to have. Would you call Disney and see if they can decrease the number, invite a party of 2 to join, or see if they can split the party at the restaurant? Or would going from 5 to 3 even give them an extra 2 top as one of ours is in a high chair?

Disney will make you cancel the reservation and then try to re-book if they can with the correct number of people.

Why not spread a little pixie dust and find a cute couple to ask if they'd like to join you for dinner? I'm sure a lot of people would take you up on that offer!

Don't worry about it. they will put you at an appropriately sized table for the number of people that actually show up.

I would definitely call Disney Dining and have them reduce the reservation by two - it's very easy for them and they're happy to do it.

They will not make you cancel and re-book the reservation - the only time that happens is if it's a prepaid meal like one of the Dinner Shows or Cinderella's Royal Table and even then, they will get it taken care of while you wait on the phone, you don't lose the reservation.

They fill the restaurants based on occupancy capacity so two more lucky folks could potentially dine there if you make the phone call. :goodvibes

Is this something new, or something specific to BOG? My experience has always been that if you can't book a smaller number online, calling won't make that happen any more magically, and they won't drop the number to 3 unless they have a reservation for 3. I've always thought that a little silly, because they always tell you to not worry about it, but then it means they're losing out on a 2 seater, but at least I don't lose out on my reservation. If that has changed then I'll start calling when our number changes, so someone else has a shot.

It's not anything new, it's just one of those things that sometimes their system will let them reduce it right down and other times, they have to get someone other than themselves on the phone to do it, but they can do it. If you already have an ADR like the OP has for 5 Guests and you want to reduce it down, they'll reduce the reservation and your reservation number will stay the same.
