BoG dinner reservations, but can I have just dessert?

I have reservations for BoG for a night when MNSSHP is going on. We have dined there for both lunch and dinner and I wasn't too crazy over dinner, my only reason for wanting to go back is so my daughter can see the beast. Can I go and just get dessert @ dinner time? Is this frowned upon? Can I use snack credits or I would have to pay for the desserts OOP? I also didn't want to waste my whole MNSSHP sitting @ dinner when we could be doing something else.

We had a lunch ADR during our trip in 2014 and just used it to have cupcakes. Planning to do the same again this fall. (We don't use the DDP so not sure about that part.)

You cannot use just snack credits to buy dessert at any Table Service restaurant, and that would include a BOG dinner. You would have to buy dessert OOP.

This may have just solved my dining dilemma! My kids are crazy for characters and had their heart set on quite a few different character meals. I just can't work out the budget and/or have it make sense with the DDP. But if I can do this approach...keep the ADR and just have dessert OOP...kids get the characters and my budget isn't blown.

So just to double check - you CAN use an ADR at a character meal for dessert if it's paid OOP (and not AYCTE)

Be Our Guest is NOT a character meal. So drop that element entirely.

You can use an ADR at any restaurant that takes ADRs. If it is an a la carte menu, and not buffet, prix fixe, or AYCTE, you can order whatever you want. At a TS, if all you want is dessert, there is no credit on the Disney Dining Plan that will pay for Just Dessert at a Table Service, so you will pay OOP.

Every Character Meal at Disney is either Buffet or Prix Fixe, and you cannot make an ADR for any Character Meal and then "just eat dessert." Character Meals are all or nothing.

Make sense?

Ok I figured that was too good of a loophole lol
So even though the beast is at dinner it's not "technically" a character meal. Ok that makes sense. Thank you!

Beast may not always appear. For party nights, the Terms & Conditions are actually saying he will not be appearing during party hours, if you read them.

Most character meals are buffet/ price fixed. However, many character meal have the same general characters, so you could pick one of each type of meal. For example, Mickey and the gang are at Chef Mickey's, Cape May brft., Tusker House, and H&V seasonal dinner. Or for princesses you can do Akershus or CRT, or 1900PF if they are more into Cinderella. Check our allears.net for menus, prices, and characters at various meals. Also, you can check the maps on Kenny the Pirate's site that tell you where characters appear in each park, so if you don't catch them at meal, you can see where you might be able to meet them while touring the parks.

You can go for just dessert, but just know that the Beast is not guaranteed to be there.

Great advice, thank you! After getting shut out of free dining, room discount and use of the "unique offer code" I'm going to have to get crafty to hit my budget and keep the kiddos happy.

Don't give up! More FD rooms keep opening up with people changing/cancelling reservations, so hopefully something will work out for your timing. In the meantime, I would let each kid pick one favorite meal(not sure how many you have if that will work!), and stick w/brft is they have it for that place, and if you do a late brft(10:30-11:00), then it's like brunch, and you get the best price. You can have light snacks in the morning from your room, like Pop tarts, cereal bars, etc. and then quick service in the evening when you can share bigger meals(like 1/2 chicken at Cosmic Rays), and can order al a carte if you don't want full meals. For BOG, if you get brft or lunch ADR you can order a few items, like just desserts at lunch, and while you won't see the Beast, you still get to be inside the castle which is cool. If you can't do as many TS meals, that also gives more time for rides and meeting characters!
