BOG breakfast, tell me it's a typo

Won't be doing breakfast there at that price . .. and to be completely honest, I wasn't all that thrilled with the lunch we had there either. CP is a much better choice for my family.

Isn't it really about getting the rides on 7DMT though? I haven't eaten breakfast there yet but that seems to be the main driver?

This is exactly why we booked a BOG breakfast for our last trip (in January). We bought our tickets too late to book FP for 7DMT, so we figured by getting a pre-park opening ADR, we'd get breakfast (albeit, a very expensive one), pictures in front of the castle while the park was still relatively empty, and a guaranteed ride on 7DMT without the wait. Between my two sisters and myself, we shared two entrees and saved the pastries to snack on later. The food is definitely not worth the price ($22/entree at that time), but two entrees for three people was plenty. We had the eggs florentine, which were okay, and the open-face bacon and egg sandwich, which included a poached egg that tasted like tap water - it was awful. I didn't even know it was possible to mess up eggs?!?!

But despite the price and the less than stellar food, if you're absolutely set on riding 7DMT and can't get a FP, I definitely think the BOG pre-park opening breakfast is worth the cost, especially if you're going during a busier season. Not sure why anyone would want to eat breakfast there without a pre-park opening ADR though. The lunch is much better and cheaper.

Buying expensive breakfast just to ride something... I understand it but I wonder about it too.

Look at it from my viewpoint, 7 year old girl, FP+ available at 30 days, no chance of her seeing her Elsa and Anna with less than an hour wait and probably longer. $36++ for DW and I to share a breakfast and pastries and DD to have some scrambled egg, then we have a shot at beating RD and actually seeing them without waiting 1-2 hours +. Worth the expensive breakfast if it works.

Oh, I understand completely. Please don't think that I'm criticizing or questioning in any way because we've done similar things. It just seems odd sometimes.

But the prices are the same whether you get in early or an hour later.

So if they sold FPs for $12/each, would that be a fair price? Or maybe $12 for a FastPass and a muffin?

What scares me about this that you've reached the decision you've reached - that's fine. It's that Disney not only could charge for FPs, but they could charge a lot!

I also think Disney is taking advantage of the popularity of this breakfast, regardless of the fact of the reason for the popularity (getting in the park early.) I thought I had read people booking bog then getting in the park and not showing up for the breakfast. They then get hit with a $10pp cancel/no show fee. Many posted that they felt it was well worth it to walk around the BOG area before park opening. I swear I read that, but not sure if it is true or not.

Maybe it's because where we live, but a breakfast out with french toast fruit and pastries would cost DS about 11 (before tips). Yes I agree $14 sounds crazy for cereal but its the same price for all the meals and its a complete meal that comes with fruit and pastries. Its 2.50 for a bad muffin at starbucks that has been sitting around for a week. And food prices have all gone up across the country. I'm not saying $14 dollars for cereal isnt ridiculous, cause it is, but i'm not sure that it is that much more then going out at home. Totally understand the tradeoff some folks are making in order to get in to fantasyland early for A&E or SDMT and overall I don't think its significantly more than what I would pay at home if we went out for breakfast. Is it a great value no, but is it totally out of the park either.

It only make sense using the Dining Plan credit to eat there.
And yes, the primary goal to eat there is to beat the crowd. It is the cheapest + fastest pre-park ADR.

If I could get a FP+ for A&E at $12 each, I'd pay it in a heartbeat. Think about it, resort guests are paying hundreds of dollars per room night over what I'll pay for FP+ priority and EMH.

For me, the value of that breakfast is FAR more than the food itself. Granted, if its after park opening, much of it is non-existent. But a pre-park ADR is well worth the money in my mind. Its how we start every trip. That quiet, less-crowded walk down Main first thing in the morning, the great photo opps, and getting to experience a few go-arounds on the hot ride of the year with no wait. All of that is golden to us. We like BOG and CP for that experience because both are fast, and both have their charms with regards to the ambiance - characters or a highly themed magic castle.

That all said because I don't translate that to a willingness to pay the same for FPs. The pre-opening ADR isn't just FPs. Its the whole package. (and its GRAND!)

Considering I really didn't want to fill up we shared the egg meal and it came with five medium sized pastries

If you can't get a FP for 7DMT, rope drop is a heck of a lot cheaper than having breakfast at BOG. Call us crazy, but our family loves the rope drop experience. It was just DH and I on our January trip and I briefly considered BOG breakfast until I saw the price and most of the reviews, no way!

With the ADR, we had 3 rides on 7DMT before the RD crowd arrived. And we didn't run down Main Street, or even walk fast. We walked slowly with hardly anyone else there, we took pictures, soaked it in. Then after, what I thought, was a really good breakfast from which we had tons of leftovers to bring along, we meandered out to a CM who escorted us to the ride.

To each his own, but my personal review of the experience is that its worth every dollar. If you told me that for $20 I could take my family to breakfast at McD's, $40 for breakfast at Perkins, or $80 for breakfast at Beast's Castle with the perks? Its a no brainer. But again, YMMV.

I was able to switch my 8:45 BOG reservation for 8:05 and I'm thrilled for all the reasons you mention. My mom doesn't do coasters and I'm not sure whether my daughter will want to go on 4DMT or not (she thought it was a little scary when she was three). But just being able to walk leisurely down Main Street is worth the price of the breakfast. I agree it's expensive. But I've enjoyed the food the last two times we ate there. And, now that I have an 8:05 reservation, I might be able to ride the mine train on my own and then we can all hit Peter Pan before crowds get crazy. Now if park hours changed to an 8 open, I'd cancel the ADR because the value of that meal drops considerably.

I get the value point if that is what is important to you, I have booked pre-park opening ADR's in the past. Those were however more reasonably priced and had good food so for me the value was there. Since DGS won't be big enough to ride 7DMT there is no reason to pay for overpriced and apparently underwhelming food, the ROI just isn't there for me. I expected I would pay a premium for a BOG breakfast but geez, that was completely shocking to me. On the other hand as a share holder, keep on making those reservations folks!
