That's really strange because a party size of 5 would require you to use a 6 top anyway. Maybe just book it at 6 since you aren't really taking a table away from anyone.

From what I have read, the booking system has a glitch in it that only recognizes certain table sizes, not party sizes. Therefore if there is no specific table for five guests, the computer won't think to put you at a table for six (or sit a party of three at a table for four). I would go ahead and book the table for six.

I had the same issue. Have a party of 3, and on my 180th day (this morning), I couldn't find any availability throughout my 10 days except for one night at 8:05 PM (too late for my three year old). I put in for a party of 4 and scored a 4:55 PM. Looks like "Grandma" may catch a cold and stay back at the hotel that day!

part of it is that they want to maximise the # of people seated at any given time...full tables mean more profit, of course. So there are less odd-number tables listed in the bookings break-down within the computer system...it's not really a glitch so much as a booking strategy built into restaurant systems. (although a party of 3 would be seated at a table meant for 4, given the choice between seating a party of 3 at that table, or seating a party of 4 at the same table...they would rather sell 4 dinners than 3 dinners!)

So even though there is a set number of actual 4-top-tables which CAN accomodate either 3 or 4 people, they may only designate as few as 10% of the tables in the whole place for parties of 3. Once those 10% are booked, a party of 3 would be told no more tables, when in fact there are lots of tables for 4 left open.

Go ahead and take the table for 4...you will not be charged for the "no show" if 3 of you show up (they only charge the "no show" if no one in your party shows up.)

The same is true for parties of 1 (take the table for 2), and parties of 5 (take the table for 6.)

:wave2:I would take the table of 4 reservation if it is still available. In 2010, my niece became sick and had to travel back home. So, all of my ressies had been made for four people but only 3 of us showed up. No one ever said anything to us. We were not on the DDP and we were not charged extra for the no show on the 4th person.

As others state the system is an *** in that it does not recognise parties of 3 and 5.
We had the same problem regardless of booking via the My reservations on the web or phone WDW Dine.

In the end we settled for a reservation for 4 and will sort it out at the podium with an extra seat at a 4 top :)
