I am so excited to see in the journals that other people are trying this out and wanted to see if a support thread just for it would work.

For those who have never heard of it their website is www.bodyforlife.com

If you are interested here is my story.

I hope it works as well for everyone as it has for me. I did not lose the pounds that some people have because my body just does not drop pounds like I wish it would but it certainly has created a lifestyle change for my husband and I that when we go off track we know we have to get back to. I first heard about the program at the end of March 2005. I was home sick and had the tv on and was partially awake when the author of body for life for women came on. For some reason everything she said really stuck with me and when I finally got out of bed for the day I got online to research more about it. The more I read the more excited I became and I sent my then fiance the link and he read it and really bought into the idea as well so we decided we were both going to do it and our journey began.

It was tough at first making sure that I was eating right and getting portion sizes correct but it got easier and I started to realize how much I enjoyed the meals that we were preparing and the snacks we were having. The workouts fit easily into my life (ok at the very beginning they didn't but that was because it was a partial culture shock) My hubby lost about 15 pounds the first two months and I only lost about 7 BUT I had to buy a new wedding dress. My original dress was a size 16 and my new one was a size 12, maybe smaller than that it was custom made but I think the measurements were about a 12. We went to Disney, got married, and enjoyed the honeymoon but at about day 4 of being away from home we were both looking at each other saying that we missed the BFL food.

The challenge part of the program is only 12 weeks but we have now followed the plan for 9 months and don't want to ever stop. The holidays were also a killer for us but once we got home we got right back to the way of life that BFL promotes. I am still losing the inches and slowly losing the pounds and won't give up on it until I am where I want to be

thanks for the link, I'm going to check this out. My neighbor did something very very similar and he lost over 100 pounds and eats more than ever - his DW has to do serious discount shopping to afford his food! :rotfl2:

I got the book a couple years ago, read it, and put it back on the shelf... :rolleyes1 I made the decision to start the BFL eating plan on the first Monday of the year (yesterday). So far so good, I did great yesterday and am doing awesome so far today! I am finding it difficult to get in 6 meals a day. Yesterday I only got in 5, and I don't know if I will be able to get in more than 5 today. I am just not conditioned to eat a snack at 8:30pm...

I was not hungry all day yesterday and I am not hungry today. I lost 1lb already and I hope that is just the beginning! My goal is to lose 14lbs before my first-ever Disney cruise (3/11/06). It's not so much the weight as looking good in my two-piece...

Whoooooooo hoooooooooo on the 1 lb!!! I know it was hard to get the 6 meals in at first and there are still times that my 6th meal become dessert right after meal 5. I've always hated eating after 7.

How did day 2 go?

Yesterday (Day 2) went just as well! I struggled a little in the afternoon because I ate a snack at 2:30 and while I was doing my exercise DVD at around 5pm, my friend dropped by unannounced and she didn't leave until 6:30! So I didn't eat dinner until 6:45 and boy was I hungry! But I didn't snack on anything because I knew I'd be eating soon... And I ate a little more portion-wise for dinner than I probably should have, but I didn't get in that 6th meal, so I guess it all works out the same...

I bought Body for Life in April 2004 and Body for Life for Women in May 2005. I don't really follow the eating plan, other than trying to eat healthy foods...like on South Beach Diet. However, I've been sort of following the exercise plan...or at least keeping track of my cardio and weight workouts. I admit I slacked off a lot in December, but I started a new 12-week program Jan. 1st!

I actually got in all 6 meals yesterday! I felt REALLY guilty about eating cottage cheese and yogurt at 8:30pm, but there have been times in the past where I have eaten worse things than that, so I went ahead and ate it.

One thing I am going to constantly struggle with (on weekdays) is the timing between meals 4 & 5. I eat a snack at 2:30pm, then get to the gym around 3:45pm and by the time I get home and get dinner on the table it is 6:30pm or later. I don't want to eat the 2:30 snack any later because that will be too close to when I work out. I can't defy the laws of physics to get dinner cooked any faster either... Do any of you have this problem? Any ideas?

NancyIL-YEAH!!! How are the workouts going for you?

lovinaz-Whooo hooo on the six meals. The cottage cheese and yogurt is one of my favorite snacks!!!!!! YUM!!!! What I have done with snacks is when I know I'm going to the gym in the evening I switch my dinner and my snack so that I have the evening snack before I workout and then have dinner when I get home since it's usually after 7 when I get to the house. Having a higer protein snack right before I workout gives me a boost of energy that I need at the gym. I usually do the bars right before workouts though, the fruit and dairy makes me feel sick if I eat those before I am on the treadmill.

Any other ideas out there?

I am a member of many fitness sites/forums and BFL is one of the most successful. Do any of you plan to enter the contest?

For an alternative there is the Leanness Lifestyle, but it's much more strict and you have to pay: http://www.leannesslifestyle.com/?lr=4618 Lots of folks go onto that program after they feel they exhausted their time with BFL.

GL! :wizard:

I'm not going to enter the challenge just live the life. :) I am going right now to look at that other site Thanks!

I am not going to enter the contest, I just want to get into better shape! Today is my free day!!! I made it through the first week! I was a little off track on the dinners Friday and Saturday but I made the best choices I could. I am NOT going to go completely overboard today, I don't want to ruin all my hard work! I am going to plan out all my meals and hit the grocery store later today to prepare for Week #2!!

Whoooooo hooooooooo on completing week 1!!!!!! DH and I start hardcore tomorrow with workouts and eating. Last week was suppsoed to be the hardcore week but I was sick and somehow workouts and sick don't work together. :)

We went to Sam's and stocked up on spinach, lettuce, mandarin oranges, apples, and all other sorts of yummy healthy foods. We then went to Albertsons and got the stuff we couldn't get at Sam's like steak. They had steaks but not my size. :)

I'm so excited about tomorrow!!!!

I really need to pull my book out and retry this one! I may be joining you Body for Lifers this week :teeth:

Please do! We'd love to have you with us!!

Dh and I also started BFL last week. This is our second time doing it. We did it 2 years ago and we both last a good amount of weight. But we slacked off for awhile and gained some back. Now it is time to get back on track. We like the BFL program. I especially like having the free day, I think it makes it easier.

I hope everyone has a good week.

Tae

YEAH!!! Welcome tae1218!!!

Today was awesome for me! I was 100% on plan-worked out more than they recommend but I know what's best for me in regards to that.

I resisted so many temptations today that it wasn't funny. I do have a list of things I hope I forget about before the weekend free day. I am going out tomorrow night with my best friend and already have a plan in place and suggestions on where to go so I can eat on program. :)

How do yall do when you eat out?

I actually went out twice last week (Fri and Sat). On Fri we went to Outback and I had 3 thin slices of bread with a little bit of butter, the grilled citrus chicken (which I split with DH) and steamed veggies with no butter. However I did "oops" and have 2 martinis... :confused3 On Sat we went to PF Changs and I got the mango chicken w/brown rice. I ate half the entree and took the rest home for lunch on my free day. I resisted the cocktails since I felt guilty about the previous night. Besides the sauce in the dish, it had non-breaded chicken and veggies, so I think I did OK. I know it wasn't perfect, but I made smarter choices than I would have in the past! :goodvibes

Smarter choices are definitely good things!! Way to go!!!! I am hoping that i can have that type of victory tonight. :)

How's everyone doing?

I feel GREAT! :cool1: This is so easy to stick to and for once I don't feel the need to snack and eat junk all the time. The hardest thing for me used to be snacking in the afternoon before/while making dinner. Now I don't have that urge anymore. To get through that long 4-4.5 hour gap between my afternoon snack and dinner, I have been drinking a Minute Maid Light and that tides me over until I can eat dinner. I am also not feeling as guilty about eating that 8:30pm snack of cottage cheese and yogurt. :teeth:

Cottage cheese and yogurt is my FAVORITE snack MMMMMMMMM!
