How is your dog today? Did you get him to see a vet for his injuries?
Hope he's feeling better...

I was wondering that too, Donna. I hope your dog's injuries weren't too serious BobO

My dog seems to be doing better. Last night i was walking my dog when it was attacked by a Chow Chow(spelling maybe off) dog. The dog came running out of the alley not of any type of leash and unsupervised and attacked my dog which is a Westhighland White terrier which is much smaller. The dog grabbed mine by the neck and began to shake it around and i believe would have killed the dog if not for a neighbor who was driving by. The dog lived about 3/4 blocks away and upon the dog being returned home the owner showed no concern for what her dog had done but was worried if i reported it that her dog would be put down as it has done this before.
My wife took the dog to the vet who stated my dog seems to be ok and was given anti-biotics and pain killers but we must watch closely for the next week to make sure infection doesnt set in. He is walking with a limp and seems sore like we would be if we had been in a accident but all things considered i feel lucky he is alive as the vet stated in these cases the big dog will usually grab the small dog by its neck and shake it a few times, breaking the small dog's neck.
Thanks for all the concern shown!!!!

That owner needs to be educated about his/her responsibilities.

I hope you are saving vet bill receipts.

Go after him for the vet bills...This is aweful and I am glad to hear that your dog is alive and well...almost.:D

I was wondering that too. I had problems trying to post earlier to the other thread. I'm glad your pup is ok. I value every doggie life (even Chows  ), but I wonder if it would be better if you did report these people, if they are just going to keep letting the dog roam and possibly kill another animal or attack a kid. As irresponsible as they sound, I'd bet the dog isn't "fixed" and is probably out there multiplying anyway.

I'm so sorry to hear this BobO. Hope your dog gets better soon.

I am glad your dog is ok....my dog also was attacked by another dog in August...had a few stitches but is ok too...a little timid now though..(and she is a Bullmastiff!!)...

My best friend has a Jack Russell and it was attacked by a long hair German Shepard back in the spring....her dog (Nakita) was shook around like a rag doll....my friend (Shelley) was hysterical..but they got them apart.......her vet bill came to almost 2000.00!!!! And the owners of the shepard paid it all!!!

Nakita is all better now.....

I would report it. The Chow is obviously vicious if it's done this before and the owner is obviously negligent if she's let the dog out to do this before. There are too many nice dogs around who need good homes to put up with the mean ones. If the dog is that violent maybe it should be put down.

Sorry for the misspelling to Chow!!!(brain fart)
Yes i did report the incident to the police ASAP and needless to say it will be fully investigated with no quarter shown towards the violator.
I am saving all vet bills and will contact the dog owner for payment of the bills.
If a report was filed on the first incident it is the practice to put vicious animals down and i will be in contact with the health dept that covers that in our city.

I'd definitely report it, especially if that dog has done this before, next time the little dog or child may not be as lucky.
I get so angry at irresponsible dog owners.

Bob, I'm very glad your dog will be alright.

Oops, I posted this as you were. :)

Glad to hear you dog is OK. Not to pick on on the Chow as a breed, but we had one in our neighborhood that was always getting lose and fighting with other dogs. It finally killed someones dog and had to be put down. The owner was sued and has since moved.

You did the right thing in reporting the dog.

<font color=navy>Glad to hear your pooch is doing okay, Bob, and hope it fully recovers.

Sad to say, but I'm glad you reported that dog owner -- if she is that negligent there is a real danger that her chow could attack another dog, or, even worse, a child ..... :(

Mary Jo, i agree!!!! It is one thing to attack a dog, but would be far worse if a child had been attacked!!!! If people own bigger dogs that have a tendency to be violent or just rougher you have to be more responsible and take more care. If it did happen once like she said she apparently didnt add any precautions to stop it from happening again!!

I agree that this dog is vicious and should be put down. Like others have suggested, it's next victem could be a small child.

I'm glad your dog is okay. It's sad and scary that some people think they can let any dog roam around, especially one with known violent tendencies. I wouldn't let my dog out of my sight, and the only damage he could do is lick someone's ears off.

I hope your dog continues to recover well.
