Bob Iger contract extended

Well, there goes hoping for anything good to happen in Future World.

Well, he has done a good job for the company, although it's true that he's not exactly the biggest fan of the Disney parks. On the positive side, it's very likely that his contract was extended so he can conclude the projects he started at WDW and DLR, which to be fair, are quite a lot. Let's avoid the ''New administration = New plans'' type of situations that are quite common in this industry.

Urgh, I was really hoping he wouldn't renew. As long as Iger is on both the board of directors for Apple and has his position at Disney we are going to continue to be subject to as many schemes as he can think of to raise his Apple stock. My Disney Experience was nothing more than a way for him to explain to investors why he needed to by iphones and ipads for virtually anyone in a supervisor or higher position all across property. Disney was already using RFID technology before MDX, but he had to change everything to make sure his stock would go up a little bit. I really hate conflicts of interest.

So Disney spent $2 billion dollars on NextGen and MDE so that Apple could sell 5000 iPads?

Hmmm....

Let's just say no. MyMagic+ had nothing to do with getting iPhones and iPads. It had everything to do with locking people into their vacations trying to get them to stay on property rather than venturing out to other places. MyMagic+ was all about pre planning your vacation rather than just winging it or going with the flow of the things. His helps disney save money by knowing how many CMs they'll need at a certain attraction, or event. It helps disney plan for themselves 30-60 days in advance rather than a week or two ahead of time. MyMagic+ is all about infrastructure everything being computerized in one spot that being your my disney experience account. By no means did this have to do with raising apple stock apple stock rises with out that anyways. Bob is about making money with disney not with Apple stock.

I may be the only one but I see this as FANTASTIC news.

Since 2005 Iger has overseen growth that took Disney from a $48 billion company to a $150 billion company, added Lucas and Marvel to the Disney family, turned DCA from a terrible theme park to Disney's 3rd best domestic park (after MK and DL), taken a dirt lot at the back of MK and turned it into new Fantasyland, taken a pretty average shopping experience with DTD and is turning it into Disney Springs, is fixing the traffic nightmare that is the hub at MK, is turning AK into a full day park, and if rumors are to believed is about to turn HS into possibly the biggest reason to visit Orlando.

FP+ may end up a total bust but I love everything else he's done with the parks.

Eisner gave us a bunch of parks but they were all built on such tight budgets they all had glaring problems, Iger seems to be addressing those problems piece by piece, he's not working fast enough for most die-hard Disney fans but he's already taken on several huge problems and it looks like there is no end in sight. My guess is by 2018 there won't be a single domestic park that hasn't seen (or announced plans for) massive improvements under Iger.

I love it too. You're certainly not the only one.

He has been great for the company fiscally and entertainment-wise. I love the intellectual property he's acquired, and I personally thing FP+ is great. As far as parks goes - Things are/have moved slowly in Florida, and not much to them (though I love new Fantasyland), but remember that we as "rabid" fans are really not the target audience, and more importantly, his job is to also fund the expansion of the parks to other places, and I have no issue with the money being spent in Shanghai, etc. We can't all get all new everything - money was spent domestically in California, we need to be patient. Avatar won't be cheap, and despite the assumptions, I am quite sure Cameron is not footing the entire bill by ANY stretch... likewise, I think a huge announcement is coming for HS, which is exactly what should be coming next to FL, so to say it's "bad for the parks" I think is a very narrow-sighted view.

Oh, and 5000, or 10000, or 20000 iPads doesn't even twitch Apple's stock value. That's a fart in the wind... what was it? 7 MILLION iPhone 6's sold the first week? Yeah, I'm sure it was all about the iPads...

From an entertainment standpoint Iger has been the best CEO since Walt. Iger is all about money that's why you see these things. He had to redo DCA it was a terrible theme park it wasn't making any money. New fantasyland could've been better, disney springs is all about money as well. FP+ is part of the MyMagic+ system which is all about locking people into their vacations and making more money. It's been said that Iger has been the worst CEO when it comes to the parks in his first 6-7 years he spent the least amount of money on theme parks of any CEO out there. DCA redo helped boost that but he is still one of the worst or the worst CEO for investing in the parks. In order to get people to come and boost profits of the parks you have to invest in them just look at Universal. Bob Iger is all about the entertainment part of the business not the theme parks.
