BOB double stroller - busses

Hi, we're headed to DW in a month with DW, DD4, and DS21 month old twins. We have an older BOB double stroller for the boys. Its great - except its cumbersome to collapse and heavy to life.

We're staying at AoA and not renting a car, so will be heavily relying on the bus system.

Anyone think this stroller is too big and cumbersome?

We may try to borrow a smaller stroller (Maclaren), but we do like our BOB a lot.

You stand with them usually toward the back but really where ever you fit. We take our city elite (city mini on steroids). It's 20 minutes of inconvenience for eight hours of comfortable pushing and kids.

We are taking our Bumbleride Indie Twin in 2 weeks. It's bulky as well, but it's so easy to push and our twins love riding in it...so I can't see risking anything that they wouldn't like!

Remember to bump this around August 25 and I can let you know how it went for us!

I only bring our single BOB to Disney but I have a double so can provide some insight. I would bring the double. It will be a pain on the busses but they maneuver so much better than other strollers, it is worth it in the parks. You do stand or sit wherever there is room and you will get looks. Who cares. I noticed some with doubles try to stand near the rear door. You won't be the only one with a double. Keep in mind though, with folding, everything has to come out of the bottom so plan ahead for that when loading the bus. We keep everything in a backpack so we can remove it all at once rather than holding everything we stuffed in it during the day. And when it comes to loading, fold up before you get to the door of the bus or people will keep boarding while you are off to the side folding up.
Also keep in mind one of you will have to be holding the stroller and the other will have to manage the kids. At night this could be an issue if any are asleep. Often at the end of the night, DH will get off with the bus, unfold the stroller, then after everyone else is off, come back on to help me get the kids off.

Like the previou sposters mentioned, it's not easy wirh a bulky double -- but it could be worth it. We took our big double on our first trip (a Phil & Ted stroller) and the airline DESTROYED it and wouldn't give us any money to replace the broken parts. Now, we didn't have a stroller bag -- but that wouldn't have protected the plastic pieces the airline broke.

So, we purchased a Maclaren twin stroller on CraigsList for $50 and that's what we take now.

We found that our kids are so exhausted by the time they are ready to nap in the stroller that they don't even care that it's not as comfy as their usual stroller. The Maclaren is so easy on the busses. It can fit between your legs while you sit and you can still have a kid on your lap. It's also slim enough to fit under the seating bench. It has a carry strap so it's super easy to hold the stoller and a kid if needed.

With the double Bob someone will need to stand and hold it and the other person will be stuck with 3 kids. This will be especially hard if you leave the parks near closing when seating isn't always available.

You're going to have to lug a double stroller anyways, it might as well be one that they'll be comfortable in and you'll be comfortable pushing. I don't think the BOB itself will be your big problem - the fact that you have two toddlers and only one set of arms to contend with them on a crowded bus could be.

We have four kids - we have always had at least one under two on our Disney trips. Many times, we have been on crowded, standing room only busses. The reality is that you can't rely on people to give up a seat - they often don't. I have, on a number of occasions, stood, holding a toddler, trying to keep a three year old from falling down on a moving bus while my husband managed the stroller and bigger kids elsewhere on the bus. It's not fun. We have found that, for us, spending $20 on a taxi van is a very wise investment in Disney. Otherwise, I think as long as you're realistic about the bus experience being a bit stressful and tiring, having the stroller you're comfortable with will be well worth it in the parks.

We have twins and own a Bob duallie. We have used it at wdw. It's fantastic in the parks but terrible on the buses. And I mean very difficult, especially if the bus is crowded (and btw, don't count on people to give up seats even if you are trying to hold two babies by yourself but that's another thread).

What I would do in your situation. I would rent a double citi mini from an offsite company. We use apple because we can not find a cheaper deal and have used them 3 times. You will have a stroller that pushes almost as well as a bob and has better recline and better sunshades. It also has an easy one handed fold (you can look on you tube for videos of the stroller). If you can borrow the Maclaren for the airport that would be ideal. We have a dual Maclaren and it's not my favorite to use at wdw. It has poor sunshades, not a great recline, and I just don't think they handle that well (we have the twin techno).

I also have twins (turned 2 on our trip) and would have loved to bring our BOB Duallie last year but I felt it would be too cumbersome on the buses so took our double McClaren instead. I like the Maclaren but it just can't compare the easy handling of the BOB. I'm still happy we took that one, I think the BOB would have been too big. This year (turning 3) we plan on bringing two single MacClarens instead of a double.

How did this work for you? I'm torn between taking our Maclaren twin triumph and our Bumbleride Indie Twin... My kids will be 10 months and 2.5 on our trip in November and they LOVE the Bumbleride. We haven't used the Maclaren as much (I bought it second hand to leave in the vehicle and have something light weight on hand) but they seem to be comfortable when we have had it out. My concern is also that the Bumbleride will be abused on the flights down and that we might have trouble going through security with them - I've heard horror stories about having them forced through scanners on the belt.

We took our Joovy triple, we always had it ready and folded before the bus came and hubby stood near the back without issue. I think you will be fine.

However will you handle a huge folded stroller (you have to hold them by you), two toddlers, and a child on the busses even with two of you? What if they are sleeping?

You do have a predicament, but I have seen parents wrestle with one of those huge strollers on the busses and it's not pretty. I would definitely go with a smaller stroller if possible - will still be very difficult if both babies are sleeping - will have to take them out. I feel for you

Sorry to hijack but we are renting the city elite for a tall child. I'm curious about your experience.
